Savagery In Lord Of The Flies: A Literary Analysis

Due to the conflicts and themes of “Lord of The Flies,” I decided to create a mask that personified the idea of the inner battle between innocence and savagery. This theme could be classified as a “universal theme,” for the concepts of good and evil have often been considered in the past. In my opinion, the book perfectly embodied this ideal, for the author truly captured, in vivid detail, the boys’ slow decline from being civilized to being ferocious. Personally, I associated the mask with one who lives their life with God between one who lives without God. When one has the LORD in their lives, one discovers a true purpose to serve and praise Him, spreading the word of His love to others. Nevertheless, when one does not have the LORD in their …show more content…

evil, was done to look like it has half lamb and half wolf. The base consists nothing more than three layers of aluminum foil, artist’s tape, and acrylic paint. I chose to definitely accentuate its facial expression; this was tricky to do, because the mask’s eyes are cut out. Thus, I focused on painting expressive eyebrows and a mouth; a bleeding/toothy snarl for the wolf and a tender smile for the lamb. I used black and white abundantly, due to them being perfect colors to represent two sides. Curiously, I did add some white to the wolf side and some black to the lamb side, this was to show how there is some hints of the other side within one. Also, there was red and pink; the darker shade was used on the wolf, so I could create a savage and dark tone, while the lighter shade was used on the lamb, in order to create an innocent and light tone. I attempted to put the most important symbols from Lord of The Flies unto the mask: the glasses, a fruit (apple), the conch, a spear, fire, strands of hair, and blood. The former three symbolize the scientific, humane, peaceful, civilized, and organized side of mankind, which all went on the lamb. The latter four symbolize the violent, aggressive, chaotic, destructive, and primitive side of mankind, which went on the wolf. I gave it my best effort to place all of these symbols and colors corresponding to their respective side; however, I used many artistic techniques, such as …show more content…

In the simplest term, one definitely behaves differently with their friends/companions than with their family or superiors. For example, some people wear “masks” in order to cover their true intentions, whether they are honest or harmful; then again, others might wear “masks” in order to hide their brokenness, when the best thing to do, is to open up with someone trustworthy. Even so, one can never judge another without knowing them, for one does not know the inner battles they face at every moment of their life. For my part, I always attempt to be the same person wherever I go or whomever I’m with. However, I do have a more respectful persona when in the presence of one who is an elder (older than myself) than I do when I am with kids my age. Yet, I remain respectful, nonetheless; I need to make sure my identity in Christ, is the one I use every day, with everyone and anyone! If a persona is a facade, which represents one’s role in life, then mine should be one: a faithful and willing Child of God! To me, it is not necessary to employ different personas, for they can potentially hinder one’s situations or relationships with others. One person may expect you to act one way, when, in reality, you are the complete opposite (figuratively
