In Sandra Cisnero’s poem, Abuelito Who?, Sandra talks about her grandfather and who he is to her and in her life.The Old Grandfather and Little grandson is a Russian Folktales that is retold by Leo Tolstoy is about a grandfather that is treated badly. After this event, his grandson tells his parents that he will treat them that way when they grow old. After this happens the parents are ashamed of themselves and start to treat the grandfather adequately. Both of these pieces of literature talk about grandchildren caring for their grandfather or grandmother. In the poem, Abuelito Who?, there is only one change in the characters. The abuelito unfortunately dies and he doesn’t live there anymore. “ doesn’t live here anymore” ( Cisneros, Line 16 ). This makes you infer that the abuelito died, but prior to this he treated his granddaughter exceptionally well. In the folk tale, The Old Grandfather and His Little Grandson, there is a significant change in the characters. The grandfather was treated poorly at the beginning of the folk tale and the change was that he was treated fairly. “She told him that he spoiled everything in the house and broke their dishes” ( Tolstoy, 9,10) This was the part where they treated him poorly and mostly disrespectfully. “His father asked him, What are you making, Misha? The little grandson said I am making a wooden bucket. When you and Mamma get old, I’ll feed you out of this wooden bucket” ( Tolstoy,15,16,17) The little grandson made the parents aware of the way they were treating the old grandfather. Therefore they treated the grandfather better. “They were ashamed because they had treated the old grandfather so meanly, and from that day they again let the old man eat with them mat the table and took better care of him” ( Tolstoy, 19,20).
