A Long Walk to Water is an engrossing true story about an African boy named Salva. It takes place in a war ravaged country named South Sudan. Soldiers scour the country, snatching children to join their ranks and burning villages in spite of the government. Salva manages to escape and join a herd of frightened people from his tribe. He encounters his uncle who quickly becomes leader of the group for having a gun and being related to the chief. Salva's uncle teaches him important lessons but meets his demise at the end of a soldier's gun. Later on in the book Salva has to become leader of a group of boys. Then a group of men. Salva shows many characteristics of being a good leader in these situations.
He is very calm and tolerant when difficulty
He gets through the day one step at a time, focusing on one matter and encouraging other's to do the same. In the desert, Salva was having a horrible day. He was parched, chapped, tired, hot, and his foot was in a lot of pain. He didn't want to move, but his uncle helped him get through the desert. He pointed to a couple of shrubs and asked Salva if he could walk there. Salva did, and his uncle pointed to another thing for Salva to trudge to. That's how Salva got through the desert, and every day of his life. He told himself all he had to do was make it to one point and repeat.
Salva is great at coaxing people into doing good things. During the book Salva and his crew were creating a well in Nya's village. There was a giant bag on the back of the truck that sprang a leak. At first the crew just patched it up as usual. The patch sprung a leak again and again despite their efforts. The crew started to feel discouraged but Salva began to persaude them to try. They continued working thanks to Salva who kept encouraging them.
I really thought that A Long Walk to Water has a great main character who is a natural leader. It's implied throughout the book that Salva is fit for leading. Salva was very forbearing when he helped the boys in his group. He showed perseverance when he got through the desert and each day in camp. He was very persausive too when he convinced his crew to carry on working. These are all charactersitics of what I would say makes a perfect
Running away from your own family and town seems horrible but that’s just what Salva had to do. Salva is a Sudanese child who is stuck in the middle of a war against the Dinka and the Nuer tribe. Salva is the main character in Linda Sue Park’s novel A Long Walk to Water. The book describes the constant struggle of having to live where there is no water, or really bad, not clean, muddy water. The story shows how he ran away into the bush because of a war in his Village. It was not easy to find his family again after Salva ran away. While running from war, he is also separated from his family. Three factors helped Salva survive in a challenging environment, they are Water, his Uncle, and Hope.
Walk Two Moons is a book written by Sharon Creech which tells the story of Salamanca Hiddle, a teenage girl who retraces the journey of her mother who left her. On her journey, Sal is able to relive her own story through her friend, Phoebe, whose mother also left. The book Walk Two Moons is representative of a heroine’s journey rather than a hero’s journey because Sal must leave her home to escape the challenges there, she finds a mentor along her journey which she eventually leaves, and she goes home to share what she has learned on her journey after she has discovered herself. In contrast to a Hero’s journey, a heroine leaves their home in order to escape the challenges or limitations put on them there.

Through Mary Ingles hard work and determination she proved that all obstacles big and small can be overcome.
“All of the adversity I’ve had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me.” Walt Disney. The books A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park, a fictional book, and Iqbal a fictional book, share the same theory. A Long Walk to Water is a book about the true story of Salva; a little boy that gets separated from his family because of the war in South Sudan and later becomes the leader of a group called the Lost Boys of South Sudan. This novel also includes a fictional story of Nya, a little girl that can’t go to school, because she has to walk to the water well twice a day, taking up most of the day. Salva helps Nya get a water well in her village years later by using his organization, Water for South Sudan. Iqbal is the true story of Iqbal Masih, a little boy that became a child slave, but was able to set himself and his friends free from slavery. This book is told in the point of view of Fatima a fictional little girl that was one of the children who was enslaved in the same factory as Iqbal. In each book, the characters grow stronger because of a cultural conflict. Cultural conflicts can force people to become stronger.
Leadership in Watership Down Many people possess leadership qualities, although they don’t rule a country. Meriwether Lewis, the official leader of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, has been called “undoubtedly the greatest pathfinder this country has ever known.” Just like Hazel, Meriwether Lewis led a group of followers into unknown territory. The two guides faced many difficult situations that they were able to overcome since they had the qualities of a notable leader.
Persistence helped him go through and face his fears and not run away from them. During these hard times, Uncle Jewiir said “One step at a time..one day at a time. Just today—just this day to get through,” which reminded Salva of so many things. During the river crossing, Salva had a fear of crocodiles.
A Long Way Gone, a book written by Ishmael Beah, is a memoir of his own struggle to survive during the civil war in Sierra Leone. A Long Way Gone was the first book Beah publish back in 2007, and has just recently published Radiance of Tomorrow in 2014. The True story of A Long Way Gone describes the life that Ishmael Beah was forced to face without the help of his family. The Title is appropriate because while facing all these challenges Beah changed drastically compared to the sweet child that he was at the start of the book. Beah becomes a long way gone from his younger days and becomes evil and vicious as the war comes to an end. I found A Long Way Gone to be a very interesting and intriguing read, due to the fact that once you started

In the book, A Long Walk To Water by Linda Sue Park, Salva shows perseverance is key when facing life’s challenges.
In my book The Winter People and in the show Sons of liberty they both show When you are a leader you are stronger when you are protecting/fighting for someone you love/care for and how does that change our future and how we live today.
One day he would be fun and get high Lecrae another day was church Lecrae, he struggled with an identity issue, he lived two different worlds. Jimmy Dean once advised, “I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to reach my destination.” The novel A Long Walk to Water authored by Linda Sue Park, is a work of realistic historical fiction and a dual narrative focused on adjusting to change. One storyline is about a young eleven year old girl named Nya who is apart of the Nuer tribe and lives in Sudan. Nya lives the life of a young Sudanese girls because they collect water for their family every day. The other storyline is about an eleven year old boy named Salva who is in the Dinka tribe and lives in Sudan, but travels throughout many countries and states in his life. Salva’s story line shows how getting attacked by rebels and escaping from civil war changed his and many others’ lives. Both characters face many changes throughout the story. Linda Sue Park wants readers to know to accept change for good or bad.
The best example from the novel is when he takes control of his own life after his father dies. His truer qualities as a leader tend to shine brighter than a hero towards the end of the book as he starts to act more independent but still follows in line with all the conditions he is put in. It even briefly mentions towards the end of the book when he says he looks into the mirror and he sees a man he never knew. This shows him as a leader because before he went through the terrors of Auschwitz he would walk around and not help anyone, not even himself. He is also a good leader throughout the book. It is actually quite clear throughout the book in the way he writes. He becomes more independent as a person as he spends more time in the concentration camps. For example, after his father dies he starts to push himself to make it to the end. He shows how he helps himself through all the obstacles that are thrown at him like when he is running from camp to camp and he sees one of his prison mates fall down and get shot. He leads himself and others several times throughout the book as
What characteristics do leaders embody? In today’s society, leaders convey strength and kindness with no attention paid to their downfalls. In A Separate Peace, Phineas is a leader with flaws, despite his high standing amongst others. John Knowles characterizes Phineas as a naive and daring static character in his novel A “Separate Peace” by employing dialogue, action, and Gene’s descriptions and feelings towards him.
