Salvador Gomez is a teenager that helps the broken down the torn up even the poor. 9/16/17 Salvador was a teenager living in puerto rico when hurricane maria destroyed the country he started helping puerto rico when he realized his family is indeed. When hurricane maria started salvador's family were trapped in there apartment they stacked up food and water before the storm hit. He started his own campaign called Light And Hope For Puerto rico. Salvador raised 14,000 of his 100,000 dollar target. Salvador wants to use that money on portable solar lamps. Salvador donated 1,400 solar lamps to 840 households. Salvador has 1,600 lamps that he hopes to donate soon. Salvador set a goal to raise 100,000 dollars to help a 1,000 families. December

Juan Carlos is not the first of Esmeralda’s sons to leave for the United states, his nine-year-old brother Francisco was smuggled into California one month earlier. Francisco now lives with Gloria, his grandmother, who paid a smuggler $3,500 to bring him to Los Angeles, California. Once Juan Carlos is in the shelter for child migrants his mother eagerly awaits him outside. After she sees him she signs a paper that says if Juan Carlos tries to travel again, he will be sent to a foster home.

In 1917 Puerto Rican’s became U.S. Citizens, but only 24% consider themselves as American (2000 census). Puerto Rico was also granted its own government and constitution, however, it had to be approved by the U.S. congress. Also Puerto Rico must obey our federal laws. In 1952 Puerto Rico became a “Commonwealth” associated with the United States. Puerto Rico does not pay any federal income tax and yet still receive federal benefits. To make for this, they cannot vote in presidential elections and have no voting representation in congress.
