“The Prophet’s Hair,” by Salman Rushdie states “the noise in the Hashim household had roused their servants and even awakened the night – watchman, who had been fast asleep as usual on his charpoy by the gate; the police were alerted and the Commissioner himself informed.” This situation reflects my sixteen birthday party. The party was at the Community Hall but based on last-minute changes they were unable to accommodate my party. Mother had decided to host the party at our house. The day of the party I went to each house on the block asking to excuse any loud noise that may occur. It all came down when a group of uninvited guests entered the house and started drinking, dancing and shouting at each other. I immediately walked over to the redhead girl and shouted, “Who are you and why are you ruining my party, get out.” She response, “Loosen up it’s a party and we are just having fun.” My dad who was always sharp at noticing things was fast asleep in his recliner next to the television. Within seconds he was hit in the head by a bottle, he arose from his recliner shouting “What the hell is going on there, you guys need to leave or else I will call the police.” One of the girls yelled “Come on guys, let’s go,” but at the corner of my eyes, I saw one of the guys from the uninvited guests grab my laptop from the console and ran outside, I tried to stop him but, was held back by my mother.
