Five score and nine years ago seven countries brought forth, upon this world, a new association, conceived in unity, and dedicated to the proposition “for the game, for the world” called FIFA. FIFA is the world governing body of soccer and is responsible for the organization of major tournaments, its most popular being the World Cup. The game of football, or more commonly known as soccer in the United States, dates back to thousands of years before. But, according to Wood, 2011 the first official match under FIFA was played in 1908 during the summer Olympics in London.
Rules of the game and Foundation of FIFA
Rules and guidelines of the game have been altered over the years, but the first official guidelines were set by the English Football Association (FA) in 1863. After soccer started becoming a popular international sport, problems emerged because not every country agreed to these rules; every nation had already adapted their own rules. The FA came together once more to discuss alterations to the laws of the game and created the IFAB (International Football Association Board) in 1886. Once IFAB had established the official rules of the game, soccer became more serious throughout the world and that’s when, in 1905, seven nations; Belgium, Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland, came together in Paris, France to form FIFA. The English FA joined world football’s governing body that same year, with FIFA becoming a member of the IFAB in 1913. FIFA’s headquarters are located in Zurich, Switzerland.

...o in charge of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. The disciplinary code deals with issues relating to drugs, corruption, arbitration, racism, and stadium bans. The Judicial Body has the power to punish, fine, suspend and ban any individual not abiding by the primary rules of respect towards others and the game.
Racism has been a major issue among fans and football players themselves. The Judicial Body has taken action to improve and rid this issue. The Judicial Body now has the power to relegate clubs if they or their fans are found guilty of this issue. Another step to get rid of racism is to have games behind closed doors, meaning no fans are allowed inside the stadium to watch the game, which is meant to me more of a punishment to fans found engaging in racist situations. These are some examples of what the Judicial Body does to improve the image of soccer worldwide.
