Interaction With the Parents Often times parents try and protect their children and do what is best for them, but in some cases they can cause more bad than good. In the drama The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the relationship between the parents and Romeo and Juliet is the reason for the occurrence of the tragedy. Romeo and his friends were very rebellious, but Romeo’s father was never there to correct Romeo's behavior or know what was happening in his life. Juliet always did what her parents told her to and they never thought that she would disobey them. Throughout the drama the parents make many mistakes making them to blame for the tragedy. Therefore, Romeo and Juliet's parents made many mistakes that impacted their children greatly. Capulet and Montague would not end their feud, making it unacceptable for Romeo and Juliet to be together. This shows that Capulet and Montague did not think of their children and that the feud was more important than keeping their family happy. Both families were respected but they could not respect each other because of an argument and they could not remember how it started. Both Capulet and Montague were immature for letting the feud continue after three fights occurred and after Tybalt died. The main reason the parents are to blame is because they were ignorant and did not show care for their children and their children's lives. “Not proud you have, but thankful that you have / Proud can I never be of what I hate / But thankful even for hate that is meant love”(3.5.147-149). Juliet wanted her father's acceptance but he would not understand that she didn't want what he wanted for her. If he would have talked to her and known that she loved someone other than Paris, she would be happy and wouldn’t have killed
