In the poem of Romeo and Juliet there are a lot of thematic elements that can be put up to debate or left to

be interpreted by the reader. The main theme of this story is love, but many do not realize that there is more to

the story than that. For example, human nature, fate, and holding grudges. All of these can be represented

through all of the characters in the story. A lot of themes are not seen by readers and people do not see some

of the more in depth topics that Shakespeare wanted us to learn from.

A character that I believe made a large impact on the story was Mercutio. Mercutio was Romeo’s best friend

and he unfortunately died when dueling with Tybalt a Capulet. His character is portrayed as a person who

jokes around and likes to make every situation comedic. He was a good …show more content…

Although the characters don’t know it, the audience know that only bad things are coming for

them. The aftermath of Mercutio and Tybalt’s death caused even more division in the houses.They eventually

put the blame on Romeo since he killed Tybalt and he was then banished. Then the big plan was supposed to

be put in action. Juliet faked her death and Romeo didn’t know she was still alive, so he killed himself, and then

when Juliet woke up she saw his dead body and then also committed suicide. The death of both house’s

children led to the end of the fight between both families and they promised peace. As readers can see, this

was something that was unavoidable. Romeo and Juliet knew that they would never be allowed to be together,

so they were aware of the consequences. They knew, but they still did everything they could to be together.

They even had to find someone to trust. For example, Romeo trusted the Friar and Juliet trusted her nurse.

These two characters were an important part of the story. Originally, these characters were not meant to be all

that important, but they were the ones that allowed Romeo and Juliet have their forbidden love even
