Romans found new societal and technological innovations which led their empire to be a sustainable society. These innovations helped the Roman Empire to be successful and peaceful. They aided in making everyone content, including the conquered and prevented wars from breaking out within the empire. Technological innovations helped the citizens live a comfortable and healthy life. New innovations included new beneficial laws.

The last king of Rome was Tarquin the Proud. A harsh tyrant, he was driven from power in 509 B.C. The Romans declared they would never again be ruled by a king. Instead, they established a republic the Latin phrase res publica, which means “public affairs.” A republic is a form of government in which power rests with citizens who have the right to vote for their leaders. This innovation was one of the keys to success for the Roman Empire. The king was a tyrant and having no limits to his power did not make the empire peaceful. The innovation was to establish a republic so that the citizens could vote for their leader and could not be abused by the ruler.

Rome had different laws and treatment for different parts of its conquered territory. The neighbouring Latins on the Tiber became full citizens of Rome. In territories father from Rome, conquered peoples enjoyed all the rights of Roman citizenship except the vote. (page 158)

This innovation was important for making the empire become a success because the lenient policy towards the conquered prevented resistance from them and helped them be content. Except for the voting custom, they could feel like a real citizen.

Their strong way of building was one of the most historical successes in the world of architecture.

In conclusion, the innovations Romans adopted were far more important than anyone could imagine. Without their innovations of new laws, architecture and their ideas, the world today would not be like it. The laws would probably not be satisfactory for everyone and the world would not be at peace. There would not be any concrete, well-made buildings for us to live in. Therefore, the importance of the societal and technological innovations was very great and led the Roman Empire to be a sustainable society.
