he Roman Empire was one of the greatest empires in history. It influenced the language, art, and culture of the world. After many decades of ruling most of Europe and some of Asia, the Roman Empire started to decline. That is due to many reasons, but in this essay, I will write about the army’s decline and the gap between the rich and the poor. The army’s decline had a huge effect on the decline of Rome because of the invasions from all areas, if the empire has no army, it will not have a chance to defend against the invaders. The gap between the rich and the poor caused commerce to die down. These two combined with many other factors caused the empire to fall. One reason the Roman Empire fell was the lack of determination and loyalty in the army. This was due to the fact that the soldiers were loyal to their commanders, and were not willing to sacrifice for their empire. This also caused a type of feudal system to ensue, owing to the fact that the commanders used their followers as tools to conquer the land of the empire. Since the empire couldn't defend against the hostile soldiers and commanders, they had to hire mercenaries, which further depleted the already exhausted reserve.
