“Public administration is the management of affairs of the government at all levels-national, state, and local. It is the branch of the wide field of administration” (Basu, 2004 p. 3). There are many scopes and areas of focus that public administration overlaps and are involved in. The areas that public administration is prominent in are politics, managerial, and judicial structures. Public administration plays a significant role in the impact of decisions that are made in politics. Quite often it is those decisions that influence operation and management of various structures. A common issue of public administrators is the lack of trust that the public has for regulatory decisions that are made. For this reason it is very important for public administrators to use their powerful influence to balance statutory interests with the public’s interest. This can be accomplished by focusing on “the protection of individual rights, private property, constitutional heritage, and a variety of other civic, social, economic, and religious values are or have been at one time at the heart of civic, community, and the public interest”(King, Chilton & Roberts, 2010 p. 957). When powerful political influences like public administrators use their political capabilities to personalized common issues that have a direct impact on citizens they build trust and a more cohesive relationship with the public. Empirical research has highlighted public administrators as functioning and making decisions without developing an empathetic rationale behind doing so. This lack of empathy has influenced the public to distrust public officials. This is understandable because just like everyday decisions made in life, if the decisions are not made in the persons best interest then the decision is deemed as contradictory to the desired effect outcome. Public administrator’s decisions should display awareness, competence, and entrepreneurship skills that deem the public administrator as a servant to the people, not a dictator in politics (Houston & Harding, 2013, p. 67).
