Rock ‘n Roll has touched many lives and made quite an impact over the years. Although this was not evident to me prior to taking this class, throughout the semester we gained insight into the concept that music impacts life through examples we saw and heard. When I took the time to interview my father, Steve Garner, I realized just how strong of an impact music can have. The concert my father told me about was Aerosmith, and it took place about thirty years ago. The ability to clearly remember that concert over a long period of time proves that music leaves lasting memories and a large impact. He said that Ted Nugent opened up for Aerosmith. From his memory he remembers that Nugent opened with “Little Miss Dangerous” and wowed the crowd. After his set, it was time for Aerosmith took take the stage. My dad says he remembers that the band opened up with “Rats in the Cellar” and from that moment on the experience was amazing. He said that the energy of the entire coliseum was “electric” and everyone was having the time of their lives. My father’s favorite songs by Aerosmith were “Rag Doll” and “Dude Looks Like a Lady”, and although they did not play either, he got to hear them at another Aerosmith concert he later attended. My dad shared that when the band played “Walk this Way” he, along with everyone else at the concert, “rocked out”. Towards the end of the show he said he remembered thinking that it couldn’t be over, along with everyone else there. My father remembers them closing with “Sweet Emotion” but luckily coming back out for an encore. For their encore they played two songs, “Dream On” and “Train Kept a-Rollin”.
