Robert Frost was a vitally important American poet in the 20th century. He wrote many influential works that are still read by citizens around the world to this day. Robert Frost was a four-time Pulitzer Prize winner in poetry, and a guest at President John F. Kennedy’s inauguration. Also, when he was alive, he published poems on a regular basis, and was very consistent with his work. In 1915, he published, A Boy’s Will, his first actual literature piece. By the 1920s, he published a number of poems, including New Hampshire, A Further Range, and In the Clearing. Robert Frost’s wife was a ginormous inspiration for his poetry. He was also influenced by the likes of Edward Thomas, Robert Graces, and even Ezra Pound. Robert Frost even claimed that Edward Thomas inspired him to write, The Road Not Taken. Apparently, Thomas’s walks around England inspired Frost to write about regret and indecision in his poem. Robert Lee Frost was born on March 26, 1874 in San Francisco. When his father died, he moved to Massachusetts with his family to be closer to his grandparents. He loved to stay active through sports and activities such as trapping animals and climbing trees. He married his co- valedictorian, Elinor Miriam White, in 1895. He dropped out of both Dartmouth and Harvard in his lifetime. Robert and Elinor settled on a farm in Massachusetts, which his grandfather bought him. It was one of the many farms on which he would live in throughout his lifetime. Frost spent the next 9 years writing poetry while poultry farming. When poultry farming did not work out, he went back to teaching English. He moved to England in 1912 and became friends with many people who were also in the writing business. After moving back to America in 1915, Frost bought a farm in New Hampshire and began reading his poems aloud at public gatherings. Out of the blue, he suddenly had many family disasters. Robert Frost is often known as one of the greatest American poets of all time. Although he is sometimes remembered as hateful and mean spirited, his life was filled with highs and lows. These differentiating periods are represented throughout his poetry. Frost once said that “A poem begins in delight, and ends in wisdom.” As can be seen, this quote not only reflected his poetry, but his life. Though many years of his life were troubled by misfortune, Frost always seemed to persevere. Robert Frost had always been interested in poetry even from a young age. He graduated from Lawrence High School at the top of his class along with Elinor White, who he fell in love with. He and Elinor then went their separate ways, while he went on to attend Dartmouth College she attended St. Lawrence University. He and Elinor did get married a few year later when they both had graduated and Robert was working different jobs as he was having no luck trying to publish his poems in the United States. Because he was not able to get any of his poems published he moved to England in hopes of better luck. After only a short time he managed to get a view works published in England and the news of his works started a lot of buzz. While all of this was going on he had no idea that people in America were also beginning to hear about his work. With the beginning of World War One he moved his family back to the United States were he took up job lecturing in colleges, but he was now living the life he had always wanted, a successful poet with a family. Throughout the rest of his life kept writing and publishing poems which he received many awards for.

Born on March 26, 1874 he was raised in San Francisco where he lived with William Prescott Frost (father), Isabelle Moodie (mother), and Jeanie (sister). William Prescott was a journalist, teacher, and editor until he died of tuberculosis when Frost was only eleven years old. Following his father’s death, Frost, his mother and his sister moved to Lawrence, Massachusetts where he showed great interest in reading, writing, and science. Although he never earned a formal college degree, he attended both Dartmouth College and Harvard University shortly before marrying his high sweetheart Elinor White. His wife’s pregnancy and an illness in the family caused Frost to drop out of college. Still living in New Hampshire, Frost tried being a teacher, a cobbler, an editor, and a farmer to support his children and wife. Frost had two children; Eliot (born in 1896), and Lesley (born in 1897 and who later suffered from mental illness). In 1900 Frost was diagnosed with tuberculosis and moved his poultry farm to Derry, New Hampshire. Within two years, his son and his daughter died. In 1912, after failing in farming and suffering anxiety from none of his work being published, Frost and his family moved to a farm in England where he began to write more seriously.
