Company and Industry Background
Rio Tinto Group is an international group of companies in the mining sector emerged in 1995 from the merger of Rio Tinto-Zinc Corporation, based in the UK and formerly known as Rio Tinto Company Limited, and Rio Tinto of Australia Limited Conzinc with based in Australia. Is withdrawing group of the world's largest coal with a profit of $ 10.2 billion 2012. With a set of 66,000 people working in over 40 countries across six continents, Rio Tinto Group is dedicated to the extraction of iron ore, copper, coal, talc, titanium dioxide, salt, aluminium dioxide and even diamonds through several divisions (Rio Tinto 2014).
The company is organized into five main operating businesses, each distinguishable by type of product:
Rio Tinto Copper: copper and by-products such as gold, silver, molybdenum and sulphuric acid.
Rio Tinto Alcan: aluminium, bauxite and alumina.
Rio Tinto Energy: coal and uranium.
Rio Tinto Diamonds & Minerals: diamonds, industrial minerals such as borax, talc, salt, gypsum and titanium dioxide.

Rio Tinto Group is formed as a double-quoted company, listed on both the London Stock Exchange, under the name Rio Tinto Plc, as the Australian Securities Exchange, under the name of Rio Tinto Limited. The structure of double-quote given to shareholders of the two companies the same proportional economic interests and ownership rights in the consolidated Rio Tinto Group, so that is equivalent to being a shareholder in a single, unified entity for all shareholders of the two companies.
