Did you know how much it hurts to fall off a horse and don’t have a helmet on? Well it hurts very bad. If you have ever fallen off a horse then you would know how it fells to fall off a horse which is bad and it hurts pretty bad. Riding a horse with out a helmet can lead to horses unpredictable, injuries, and example because you can get very hurt from getting bucked off of the horse if you get bucked off the horse you can get hurt very bad if you ever have been bucked off a horse then you would know how it feels cause it hurts every bad so that if you can’t tell how bad it hurts when it happens to you. The first thing you always need to have before you go riding on a horse is to make sure you have your helmet, boots, and reflections vest on so if you are riding a horse at night then people who are driving can see you. You should always make sure you have your helmet on so if something like getting bucked off the horse happens you won’t mess up your brain. Say you don’t have a helmet you can go and buy one and try to help keep you safe if you don’t wear it while you are on the horse then you get bucked you could go to the hospital. Like with a horse you have to make a good example for little kids cause if you don’t wear a helmet they will think they don’t have to wear an helmet. So if you don’t wear a helmet little kids that see you without a helmet think they won’t have to wear one because you don’t they look at you as you ride a horse. Should you shoe your horses or leave them barefoot? What is better for the horse? What will benefit the horse more? Although it’s a hot topic, it has never really been an issue to me. I have always shod my horses in the summer when I know we will be using them a lot and always leave the shoes off in the winter. I ride with a lot of people that will never use shoes or will sometimes only use a pair on either the front or back. Each person has their own beliefs and reasons behind why they choose to do what they do. For example, when I bought my current horse (around ’08) the person I bought him from only ever shod the front two hooves. I started putting shoes on all four of his hooves and they have been that way just about every summer since I purchased him. Then again, I’m only one person. Everyone has a different viewpoint on what is best for the horses and how to go about doing the best thing for their individual needs. That’s really where this question comes from for me. I want to know why; I want to know why people are so opinionated in one way or the other, as well as find out what is actually in the best interest of the horse.

When riding a horse you don’t just sit there and do nothing, You work hard to control a 800-1000 pound animal. You have to push your horse and yourself to the greatest you can be. It is a lot of work, it is just like any other sport. The rider has to give the horse little aids that no one else is supposed to see. A horse needs their rider to help direct them to go where they are supposed to. The rider should know the pattern for the course they are going to do. The horse has no clue what they are doing unless the rider tells him what to do (Hicks). Riders use their body to give the aids to the horse. There are sometimes when the rider uses the reins to steer the horse (2014 Kissock 5). The riders have to make sure the horse stays calm and relaxed while in the arena. If the rider just sat there the horse would not know what to do and someone could get hurt (Calder 30).
