Every point of view is considered an argument in everyday life. Although many arguments are thought to be based on a point to win, not all arguments aim to win out over others. Writers and speakers have many purposes for arguing and take on different usages of languages such as; to inform, to convince, to explore, to make decisions, and even to meditate or pray. In Viola Davis’s speech about eradicating world hunger, to get rid of for good, she makes many arguments towards society along with personal information that is key to start, and keep the Hunger Is campaign going forward. Her use of hard facts such as; there are over 17 million hungry children in the world, 3 out of every 5 children go to school hungry and 1 out of every 5 children are currently living in a food-poor house, this information gives the audience a perspective of what is going on around the world. The ability to inform people will give rise to others that are able and willing to help with the important cause. She told her whole audience why she joined the campaign, she wanted to help herself. By joining and helping the Hunger Is campaign, she now has a new sense of self. The argument of persuasion is included into her speech as well, she first used points to inform others on the amount of hunger in the world. She then persuades the audience to help eradicate, childhood hunger. She believes the everyone should have a voice and no one should be unspoken. She also believes that every child should have a chance at the American Dream, and no one should live in a world where they can't afford to be fed. She used ethos to describe the childhood hunger that is being dealt with around the world. When referencing that she was 1 out of the 17 million children living in poverty, it captured the audience and kept them intrigued. She mentioned that her mom had one picture of her from when she was little. The picture included Viola smiling from ear to ear with her hair in a little ponytail, she said, “...and I have to tell you, that's me, that's who I remember every time I wake up…” She has a true purpose when she is giving that speech, she gives it with emotion and purity. She grasps the audience and takes them for a journey through her past, as she tries to create a bright future among the 17 million children living in poverty
