The Ideas of the Enlightenment where revolutionary because they influenced how our government functions today, including how the constitution was written. One example of a revolutionary idea that an enlightenment philosopher thought of was that the punishment for a crime should fit the crime. This idea was thought up by Caesare Beccaria.
