Requiring Physical Education Classes

Physical education classes should not remain required as part of a total high school education. Many students in high school do not feel that physical education classes remain necessary. Requiring physical education classes as a credit for high school may lead to many downfalls in a student’s life. Physical education classes may lead to bullying, social isolation, and embarrassment for some students.
First, physical education classes remain unbeneficial for students who play sports and exercise on a daily basis. Although physical education remains enjoyed by some students, it also remains dreaded by many others. Many students who play sports and do extracurricular activities do not feel that physical education classes serve a purpose. Physical education classes should not remain mandatory for athletes while they remain in a sport, or for athletes who regularly compete on a traveling team. Also, physical education classes may pose a risk for students who play sports and do extracurricular activities. Many injuries to student athletes have happened in physical education classes.

Students that remain obese and not as active as their other peers, may become bullied when they are not capable of doing some of the physical education activities. For example, many students in mandatory physical education classes spend most of their time sitting on the sidelines while the athletes play with the activity. However, sometimes this may lead to some students feeling excluded. Even though most schools require physical education classes, usually, the fitness goals are not being met for most of the students.
