They daily life in the Renaissance is much different than daily lives today. For instance their housing for a poor farmer is a one room hut. For the wealthier merchants the began to live in large homes. They were dark , cold, and had no running water or bathrooms. Clothing they wore was to show off their status. Men wore a tight coat called a doublet. The woman wore long dresses. There were many laws passed to keep the lower class from dressing fancy. Church was an important part of their lives. Christianity was the was the main religion.

It was the earliest manifestation of the Renaissance, as well it was the era of massive cultural change and achievement that started in the 14th century and terminated during the end of the 16th century. Despite the nature, origins and even existence of the Renaissance being subject to intensive investigation by many historians, the traditional understanding of the European renaissance as being defined as the bridge between the Middle Ages and modern era has resonated in society throughout time. Exemplified through the influx of creative arts, literature and philosophy of that time, Swiss cultural historian Jacob Burckhardt defined this bridge as being the result of an immense intellectual transformation in humanity. In fact, the term ‘renaissance’, coined by the French historian Jules Michelet, can be translated to mean ‘new birth’ or ‘rebirth’. Spanning roughly through the 14th to 17th centuries, the renaissance is often recognised as the time of a revolution of cultural revitalization and exploration. These traditionalist ideas of the Renaissance as developed by Michelet and later expanded by Burckhardt were however ultimately disposed by revisionist historians like Charles Homer Haskins who began a revolt against Renaissance idea, motivated by the goal to deny the era any legitimate historical existence and annex the period to the middle ages. However, the perspectives of these historians in this debate are ultimately a reflection of their own context and purposes. Both Michelet and Burckhardt’s approach reflect their own 19th-century world, whilst Haskins was heavily influenced by his liberal, optimistic 20th-century ideals. Italian Renaissance followed soon after the Middle Ages. It was the time of discovery and the revival of a new age—known as The Golden Age. The Renaissance witnessed the great discovery, exploration and inventions. This era was introduced by the birth of the philosophy of humanism, which highlighted the significance of individual accomplishment in a broad range of fields. However, it also had a dark side full of corruption, greed and scandal.
The Renaissance era was a very grim time to live in, mostly for the children. Their well-being, education and future were something that was often jeopardized by everyday factors of life. Their parents were not really there for them, they were more focused on other more important matters. Many children today believe that they live harsh lives and that their parents do not care for them, but if they were to travel back decades ago and live the lives of The Renaissance children, their outlook might alter. The children of Renaissance had everyday lives of poverty amongst a society pyramid. There was no “moving up” or “upgrading”; whichever economic family you were born into, was the family you died in. Everything, which is a gift now, is a struggle to obtain during that era; such as schooling. Education was very limited for middle class and poor children (royal youth received a little more than their pupils beneath their standing). Since their earliest age (such as ten through twelve) adolescents were expected to be “young little adults”. There was not much of a childhood for them since adulthood was rushed so quickly into their young lives. The youth born into the Renaissance era lived the harshest of lives than any other generation; their childhood and schooling were the major contributors to it. The Renaissance was the rebirth of Europe and it all started in the city of Florence. Florence and everything that made a standard Renaissance city: painters, sculptors, writers, architects, and a vivid culture. Soon all of Europe would follow in Florence’s footsteps and “the setting is so rich, varied, rambunctious, and inventive as Italy in the Renaissance” (Cohen 1). Nowadays we can still see around us the trends from that time, it may not exactly look like it but we can still see the idea behind it. A couple similarities we see from a couple years ago would be the “Scarpin” the duck bill leather shoe which had jewels as such woven into the shoe atop, which favors the Crooks people wear today where it is bill-like and pieces of decoration can be placed atop of the shoe. Another trend from the time period seen today are the wigs made from peasant hair, which now a days (favored by women) it’s very common to get wigs, excitations, clip-on, etc. made with real hair. The Renaissance era was the birth of fashion and the urge to follow its rules.
The men and women of the Renaissance were at least as pious as those of the Middle Ages. Only their expectations are now different, they are looking for a more direct relationship with God. The Church that plays the intermediary role is extremely powerful. It has gradually moved away from the expectations of her followers. The pope had become a sovereign, a Head of State who acted like kings. In addition, the conduct of some prelates was far from exemplary. There were also bishops and abbots of monasteries who lived in luxury, forgetting the commandments they preached themselves. More and more believers reproached these ecclesiastics for not being worthy of the charge that God had entrusted to them.

Florence, Italy was a city just like any other during the Renaissance. It was city of 50,000 people, less than there were in Paris and Venice but more than most other European cities. The busiest parts of the city were the Ponte Vecchio, a place lined with markets and houses, the neighborhood of the Orsanmichele and Mercato Vecchio, or the Old Market. Florence was a place of beauty and leisure. A Venetian visitor once said, “There is in my opinion no region more sweeter than that wherein Florence is a placed for Florence is situated in a plain surrounded on all sides by hills and mountains…And the hills are fertile cultivated, pleasant…” (Unger, pg. 1). Before this time there was the Middle Ages. Then it was not a good time at all, it was full of sickness, disease, death, and the plague it killed almost half of Europe’s population. After the plague slowly decreased the population in Europe started to grow. Lots of new things started to happen. Like Bankers Merchants, and Tradespeople had a new market for their services. People became wealthier and had more money to spend. People began to build much bigger houses and buy more expensive clothes and people became more interested in the art and liturature. People began to learn foreign languages, they read more, played instruments, and finding more that interested them.
