The film ‘Remember the Titans’ (2000) directed by Boaz Yakin is based on a true story about two schools in Virginia that were integrated. Bill Yoast the head coach is replaced by Herman Boone. The two teams are forced to come together which causes problems but the problems make them stronger as a team/community and also shows the viewer important messages/themes like overcoming racism and the bond of friendship.

In 1971 based on true events, two schools in Alexandria, Virginia were integrated to form T.C. Williams High School. As the film develops, their friendship gets stronger. They worked side by side to overcome racial issues and to heal the conflict but every friendship starts somewhere. Gerry and Julius wouldn’t acknowledge each other, when they were told that they were going to be team mates they didn’t want to merge, I believe that they generally thought that they were playing on the same team as the enemy but they both knew that the team would not function if they were both enemies so Julius and Gerry needed to work out there differences. On the camp they spent days with one another yet neither of them made the effort to get along until Coach Boone made each and every player learn something about each other. This is when I noticed a change in Gerry’s stubborn ways, he began to try to get along with Julius. After the task that Coach Boone set up, both Julius and Gerry’s friendship grew. When they’re friendship began I saw the boost in self-confidence for them as friendships do to us. Personally, I feel that it is super important to have strong friendships like Julius and Gerry’s because they encourage us to try things, accept us, understand us, give us unlimited laughter and fun adventures and are like our siblings.
