The internet is a crucial part of the life of the everyday person in the constantly connected world of 2016 and I am no different. A large portion of my average day is spent on the internet in one form or another and it is very rare to go a whole day without connecting to the internet. My time on the internet is used in a variety of ways from playing video games online to studying an academic subject. In this paper I will explore how I use the internet and critically analyze what I do on the internet and how that affects me and how I present my digital self. On YouTube I watch videos on subjects that I am intrigued by and explore suggested videos on the homepage as well as suggested videos on the right sidebar of videos I am watching. I also frequently visit bleacher report, which is a sports news website. My browsing history consists of many news sites but primarily I stick to politico and CNN. I use websites like Hulu, HBOGO and Netflix to stream video to my devices and this is the method used to watch many of my favorite television shows. Lastly, excluding miscellaneous and academic use, I use the internet for social media such as Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. I use Instagram once in a while to check on what my friends have been up to and to explore the explore tab, which has recommended videos and pictures based on who my followers are and what I look up on Instagram. Facebook is used by me to see when a friend of mine has a birthday or to view a large group of photos a friend has posted that I have been told to view. As far as when I am most likely to be on the internet, the most popular time is during the night after I have completed my day. This is likely because that is when I have my most downtime and am looking to catch up and explore different subjects. The subject I follow can be placed into genres such as music, sports, eclectic information, entertainment, and news. The music portion of my map includes Complex, Rolling Stone, and ExpectingRain, a bob Dylan news site. I visit these websites rather sporadically because information about music is not an urgent matter and is not time sensitive. The sports portion of my map includes Bleacher Report, ESPN and ESPNFC, a website for world soccer news, and I check these daily. I search the web over eclectic information I want to learn about and I frequently end up on sites like Quora and this happens multiple times a day. When looking for entertainment on the internet I normally go to YouTube, Netflix, or HBOGO. These websites are full of entertaining things and I find myself on them a good amount of time especially at night. News websites such as Politico, BBC, and CNN are checked a couple times a day, generally at night and sometime during midday and I check BBC to receive a view on the news that is not US centric.
