In this course, one of the main things I have learnt about is Stauffachers leadership context and principles. I have always understood what makes a good leader on the soccer field, its someone who takes responsibility and comes up with the goods when the team is struggling. However this course has allowed me to look more into the leadership qualities. The first is purpose, if you are leading you need to have a vision of what you want to achieve, if not it’s going to be difficult to see progress and keep motivated. Keep your standards high and don’t allow other team members to become complacent, the minute people get complacent, that’s where the downfall takes place. Another huge part of the course which is a big learning curve is Fayol’s 14 management principles. All 14 principles are something which I can relate to, whether it’s in the classroom, in the gym, or on the soccer field. Before taking the class I had a basic understanding of management, but Fayol’s principles give you more of a broad look at things and its helped me understand things in a different way, I feel I can apply these management principles in the future. The first principle is division of labor which is related to increasing effectiveness and being as efficient as possible with what you’ve got, I like this one as a lot of people can be good at it, if you know what qualities you have and what you can bring to the table, you can be efficient, also if you know your strengths you can use these.
