As I started my junior year, I had four AP’s on my back, and as I mentioned before, I was determined (expected) to pass all of them with A’s. Taking an advanced placement history class always worried me, last year I unfortunately got a B on AP Euro, due to my laziness, and now this year I was scared, I got to admit that, to take this course. AP US history was the most challenging course for me, simply because history has never been my strength in school, and if I have to point out, it is my weakest area. It is hard for me to focus on history, and to keep the information stuck in my head. However, even though I was worried of “failing” AP US history with a B, I realized I had a great teacher. However, I also realised that one of my weaknesses was asking for help, I had many great teachers who offered their time before and after school, and even lunch, and yet I did not take much of an advantage of that. I was taking AP World History, my first AP class. Keeping up my grades in the class was one of my biggest concerns, but surprisingly, it turned out to be a relatively laid-back class without much homework. Throughout the year, the class was mainly notes and document analysis. The only difficult part of the class was the tests. They were long and arduous with several vague questions based on specific parts of the curriculum that we had only gone over lightly. The course became more vigorous as the exam date drew closer; we began writing more essays, the tests we took grew longer, there were after school study sessions, and even a mock

The author of this website, which would be the National Council on Public History, is specifically looking at what exactly is public history and what exactly is meant by public history. Public History can be defined as history in the field. It is the use of history in real life situations. It is history applied and goes outside the realm of academic history. The author does mention that while there used to be clear definitions between public and academic history with public history being more multi-disciplinary, history as an academic subject has also increasingly become multi-disciplinary. Public historians have many different names such as archivists, museum professionals, and local historians. The author’s main argument surrounding these definitions of public history is that there are different forms of history with public history being the kind that the average person sees. Public historians can deeply impact their local communities and many collaborate with local community members on projects to ensure that the history they’re detailing is that of the community who is affected by it. The author does note that while many public history projects can be educational, the purpose might be more for an intellectual history like for a business’s archives. Public history projects could also be used to promote the local town or for the town’s own economic development.

In today’s advancing society, knowledge has become an essential aspect to achieve a successful lifestyle. It is important that one demonstrates scholarship from the early ages to attain knowledge and understanding for the future. I like to challenge myself in my education by taking tough classes so it helps me to establish an effective work ethic that I can compliment with my career later on the road. As I shoved my notebook into my backpack, I heard my writing fellow murmur something about an essay. I wasn’t worried. After taking every Advanced Placement English class my high school offered, I felt equipped to handle a simple essay until received Dr. Carver’s email with the prompt and instructions. I blinked at the screen and rubbed my eyes; thinking I had misread the message, I read it again. I was supposed to have the essay finished in approximately 42 hours, but I had never written a decent essay in less than four days. I was in a state of panic; all of my ideas had evacuated my imagination leaving me with a painful case of writer’s block. To me, most of good writing is good editing and proper editing requires having a window to forget your writing before returning to it: a window that 42 hours just couldn’t provide.
I am truly fortunate to have had Shaunel Hylton as a sophomore in my American History class. The abilities and the progress she demonstrated throughout the year made her a pleasure to teach and a tremendous asset to our class. Shauntel’s work ethic, insights on the course content, and personal accountability for success were most impressive. She enriched our class with her superior interpersonal skills and her eagerness to learn. Dedicated to constant improvement, Shauntel leads by example to the benefit of everyone in her environment.
Our historical knowledge about antebellum (pre-war) America is very colored by our familiarity of the disasters that occurred in the era of American history prior to the Civil War. Americans understand and appreciate the seriousness of the sectional conflicts that divided the country between the slave-labor, industrializing North, agricultural South and the free labor (Foner,321) . Antebellum culture really mirrored the growing sectional crisis in America. At one time they were trying to pave over sectional crises and in other they tried to make the light of them. Even though southerners imprisoned black people, white Americans from both part of country embraced anti-black racism (Foner, 320).
I have been taking advantage of educational opportunities such as AP classes and Honors throughout high school because these courses will prepare me for college. In addition, an AP class will help me save money on tuition, and it will also help me graduate sooner. I decided to take my first AP class my sophomore year because I was encouraged by one of my previous teachers. I am glad that I took AP Spanish Language and Culture my sophomore year because that gave me an idea of how much work to expect when I attend college. Since, I was very dedicated to passing the AP test, I developed new study skills such as asking questions, making flashcards, and taking cornell notes. As I am in my junior year at Godinez, I have become a confident student that has the willing to enroll in some higher challenging classes, particularly in AP Chemistry, AP English Language, and AP United States History. I have applied to get three Advanced Placement classes in my junior year because I wanted to challenge myself. In taking three higher level college courses, I discovered that my weakness was in AP U.S. History because I was having trouble in remembering the specific historic events that have happened in a certain time period. My greatest weakness is being able to say no. due to the energetic person that I am, I tend to take on tasks that are required of me and even beyond me. I view it this way of not wanting to appear negative or a lazy person when I say no. This in turn creates lots of stress and pressure in me due to my effort to get things done even when it is not convenient. I am currently working on this weakness and learning how to politely refuse tasks when am over stressed. Being over stressed reduces the quality of care given to patients and that is why I only plan to embark on tasks that I could finish at a time, rather than taking numerous that I would perform poorly in.
