Reflective Essay
Throughout the school year, my knowledge of how to be a successful student and person, has skyrocketed. English this class has pushed me, caused great stress, and most importantly, improved my skills in many aspects of life. I realized that the things we learned in class, improve our skills in other classes as well. This semester revealed many weaknesses I face as a student while pushing me to expand my mind. During English One Honors second semester, my reading, writing, and speaking skills, improved tremendously.

In my opinion, writing can have a great affect on someone's life. I noticed that the structure can make a great difference in how a piece of writing is interpreted and understood. If the piece is hopping from idea to idea, unorganized, or boring, then the reader won’t want to read it even if the content is superior. We haven’t had very many essays to write but our clew assignments taught me how important the warrant or explanation is. In the beginning, my warrant did not mention both the claim and evidence in it. Consequently, I would get a couple points off. The last couple clews we wrote, I received a 100% because I learned just important the warrant is. Even if the reader doesn’t agree with the claim, the warrant should give specific reasons why it’s correct. The toughest piece of writing we wrote this semester was the literary criticism. The amount of content we had to include was intimidating. Even within this assignment, I noticed growth in the ability to prove and provide evidence for my thesis. Although we didn’t get our grades yet, my structure made my essay easy to understand by having each body paragraph talk about a different “LEW”. The descriptive essay was one of the easier essays for me but I struggled with understanding just how much detail to include. I felt like I was droning on and on.
