Reflection Paper During these last 9 weeks, I have learned a lot about the workplace. With the readings assigned to us in class and my time at Bickford Assisted Living, the skills I have accumulated with aid me in my future career as they have given me the knowledge of how to make informed decisions. As well, this opportunity has allowed me to understand, from firsthand experience, what it is like working with seniors.
Marketable Skills There were many skills I learned from this position that I can apply to any future jobs. The first being the ability to get relate and connect with those who are older than myself. All through school and in other jobs I have had, I have been surrounded by my peers. In this position, I was the only college-age student and was working with seniors. Therefore, I learned how to interact and work with people outside of my age cohort, something that will likely happen again in the future.
Another skill would be that of leadership, which might be impressive to prospective employers. Many times I had to step up and take charge in leading or facilitating the various activities offered. As this is a crucial component in this field, having had this hands-on experience will be

It has taught me that I have the capability to work consecutive days in spans of time that will likely be similar to periods I will work in the future. As well, I discovered that I have a passion for working with seniors. This then leads into my future career goals as this experience has helped me gained a deeper understanding that this would be an enjoyable and beneficial field for me to enter. I feel as though having the day-to-day hands-on experience has helped me create a clearer picture as to what I see myself pursuing in the future. Thus helping me tailor my career decisions from here on
Learning this competency made me think about what makes a good human service professional and how I measured up. It caused me to look at my life and my experiences and realize how different things could have been for me if I were to have received certain services growing up. I have also learned from my class that all kinds of people from all walks of life, can find a place they are needed in human services.
...ecause it gave me an opportunity to hear the perspective of other health care professionals that are not in the same field as me. I also got to learn what role each health care professional could contribute to the Triple Aim goal. Also, this experience would make it easier for me to work with other professionals during my course of study and after I graduate because I have been a little exposure to what it is going to be like discussing and trying to figure out ways we can contribute to the Triple Aim goal together as a team.
The course also prepared me to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. While attending clinicals, I practiced procedures and proper care for the elderly. My experiences in the nursing home helped me realize that there was more to nursing than just giving proper care to those in need. During my clinicals, I was able to sit down with the residents assigned to me and hear their childhood stories. They shared many old pictures and possessions with me that made it worth the visit. It really touched my heart to know that my residents looked forward to seeing me and providing them with my care and compassion made a difference in their stay at the nursing home. When I reflect on my experiences, I begin to look forward to my career in nursing. I know the appreciation I feel when I have others caring for me, so that is a feeling that I would like to give in return to reassure every single one of my patients that they are cared for and their health and well-being is my primary
Throughout this paper, I will talk about what professionalism in the workplace is. I will describe different viewpoints from different sources as well as my own perspective on the subject. I will provide examples of what is correct and incorrect professionalism in the workplace. Lastly, I will discuss how you can accomplish correct professionalism in the workplace.
For instance, learning how a professional office runs on a daily basis. I worked in the main administrative offices, meaning I was surrounded by the day-to-day operations of the Historical Society. From helping scan documents, to assisting in event preparation, I gained valuable hands on experience that could serve me in jobs not related to history; this wasn’t solely an academic experience. Experiences like attending the morning meeting or writing business related emails will no doubt serve me well in future
Having a group of senior citizens following you around for dinner most likely doesn’t sound like a fun night. However, working at a nursing home doesn’t feel like an actual job at all; I actually enjoy spending my nights at the Grand Residence. Not only has this job given me responsibility, but I also have built relationships with many residents. While spending my evenings at a nursing home throughout my high school career, I have come to the realization that I am comfortable and genuinely happy with pursuing a career in patient care in the foreseeable future.
As part of a six week clinical placement I was posted in Aged care. During my clinical placement, I had an opportunity to enhance my knowledge about the ageing process. I had learned to apply advanced knowledge to plan appropriate care for an older person with complex health needs, analyse the principles underpinning best nursing care of an older person, integrate legal and ethical considerations into nursing care, including documentation and develop practice in relation to the care of a person with dementia.
I got to attend a class to see how CNAs put residents’ information into a system called Answers on Demand (AOD). A lot of the meetings I got to sit in on had nurses in them and since nurses are the ones taking care of the residents on a daily basis, I get to learn how they form bonds with them. I didn’t get to spend any one on one time with a nurse and that’s the only thing I regret not taking advantage of. I got to spend time with the Director of Clinical Services and she informed me of what she provides to the clinical team and an overview of what she does. In the social services area, I got to work closely with the independent living social work team because they were under Resident Services. I got to observe the independent living weekly meetings and the combined social work meetings bi-weekly. I spent time in Assisted Living and Parsons Health Care (PHC) care planning meetings, so I got to see how the meetings were conducted with the residents/families and staff. When I sit in on the meetings, I get to see the process of how the social work team will get the resident to transition through the continuum of care. For food service, I met with the Director of Dinning and he gave me a general overview of the dinning facilities with WCR. Then I met with the Supervisor of Parsons Health Center and she showed me the main kitchen where all the residents’ food is made. Next, she showed me how the food is delivered to each dinning room in Assisted Living (AL) and PHC. After the food gets to the dinning rooms, they are then taken out the insulated carts and then temperature checked. Then the residents get to pick out what they want for their meal and the staff will serve it to them, making sure to check their dietary
As a student in the medical assisting program I had many expectations to learn about medical and clinical procedures necessary for obtaining a degree as a medical assistant. I knew there would be a fair amount of homework and a lot of new information to learn and memorize. To my surprise one of the required assignments was to complete twenty five hours of service learning with an elderly companion. I was initially excited, although unsure what I would learn from the experience, as I have worked with the elderly and disabled as a nursing assistant for the last 16 years.
The purpose of this paper is to identify professionalism in the workplace. There are multiple understandings and expectations of professional behavior. It can vary based on where you work and what are your duties. The focus of this paper will be in the healthcare field and especially the expected professional behavior of nurses.
How can health care professions make the patient experience better in a hospital? There are numerous answers to this question, and in this area there is always room for improvement. The responsibility falls onto the employees at the hospital, and the biggest way they can tackle this goal is to have efficient teamwork. This is a broad topic itself, so how might it be achieved? The first step in great teamwork is communication. The next step is to have a strong leader that can bring everyone together. One final step that is important in achieving teamwork is having a group of people that have a common goal. “By its very nature, much of teamwork is distributed across, and not stored within, interdependent people working toward a common goal.” (Gorman, Dunbar, Grimm, & Gipson. 2017) In this case, the common goal should be to better the patient experience. These groups of people--the co-workers, need to be

Describe and explain how this factor can potentially have a positive influence on workplace relationships
By observing and learning from them, I managed to pick up tips and learned different types of skills, from learning to communicate and deal with other companies, to reading and deciphering many different types of plans.
The demanding nature of the work has given me an added sense of responsibility but also of pride, fulfilment, and greater appreciation for hard work, ultimately making me more mature and dependable.
