The movie Sicko evaluates the medical services and shows the U.S. government 's role in policing the medical profession. Before I watched this movie, I thought that living in America was living the American dream. However, this American dream is only a façade or an illusion that takes my mind away from some of America 's flaws. In this documentary, the director and writer Michael Moore exposes the dysfunctional health care system in the United States, which sacrifice essential health services in order to maximize profits and insurance companies, which pay bonuses to employees who are successful in denying coverage and claims. He interviews U.S. displaced people in Paris about French services and three Americans who developed respiratory problems from volunteering at 911 Ground Zero and were refused health coverage for their illnesses. As a result, 911 Volunteers went to Cuba for a treatment where they received the top-rated free care. According to the film pharmaceutical companies overcharge the medication. For example, the same respiratory inhalers cost 5 cents in Cuba compare to $20 in the USA. However, according to Sicko most the bourgeois politicians are trying to fix the system by finding new ways to extend the disaster of health insurance industries. For example, the Republican Nixon administration supported HMOs in the early 1970s, and Clinton administration ruined the health care reform in the first two years. The main merit of Sicko is that it moves the debate beyond this framework. To strengthen the argument, Michael Moore provides references to direct speech of reputable people in politics, healthcare and economics. The initial purpose of the discussion is to find the causes of healthcare failure and to provide recommendations in changing the current situation in dysfunctional health care system. As part of the applied framework, Moore incorporates statistics and visual presentation of comparison between healthcare in the USA and universal health care.
