Winston Churchill once stated “To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.” During my time here at English 180 I saw some improvement in my writing in terms of content. I feel as if I am more capable of writing an essay with better content than I was able to do back in High School. My essays have shown improvement because I did change my style of writing a bit and I added something different every time I wrote a paper. In English 180 we wrote several papers, but each one had a change to fit the certain criteria. Winston Churchill’s quote perfectly describes the purpose of the class English 180. Writing different pieces with a different format and branching out was key in the subjects of our writing assignments.

My paper as wasn’t narrowed to one small topic it was an idea that branched out to other ideas, but I only chose three of the many ideas that could have applied to my thesis. This paper was only easy to write about because I chose the right topic when I wrote the previous paper. If didn’t choose this topic my ability to get the point across may have been affected. This paper, especially, has made me feel great as a writer. I didn’t struggle on the research or putting out content and I didn 't half-heartedly write about this topic. Every sentence felt like it contributed to the meaning of the research. Personally, I believe this paper is easily one of my best papers I have written. What also made me proud of this paper was the fact that did this all by myself. I didn 't seek help to write this paper because I wanted to see the true extent of my abilities. I now know for a fact that I can definitely put out a quality piece of work, especially if I put my mind to it. The process of how wrote this paper was a unique one. I heard about a writer who never changed his words or revised. He just spent more time focusing on each sentence and never went back to change it once he started a new sentence. I tried this process to see how it would work for me and I liked it because I was able to focus on the topic much better and bring out better material. The only flaw for me was that I did have to revise to check my grammar otherwise I actually didn’t change the actual elements of the paper. My grammar can definitely be improved greatly since it 's honestly my weakness. I used several sites to check on my grammar/spelling while I personally went through the paper and revised. I am, fortunately, proud to say that even my grammar has gotten

I came into this class under the impression that I already wrote well enough and wouldn’t need to improve. However, as I progressed through the semester I learned that there is always room to grow. The first paper I produced was not at the level I was hoping but after I actively decided to improve my writing my papers became much better. Looking back on my work in the class I wonder how much my writing has changed and where I still have room to improve. Without evaluating my work I can’t hope to become any better. Over the course of this semester, I have progressed as a writer. Picking up new skills and dropping old bad habits has transformed me into a much better writer than when I entered the English 101. Entering this class, the only English classes that I took were mandatory high school classes all four years. In these classes, however, content was focused on reading novels, poems, and literature. There was usually only one major writing assignment each year, which was a research paper on a topic that was given by our teachers. Although there was some writing involved in these classes, most of the class time was spent on improving my reading and comprehension skills. A small part of the class was given to improve my skills as a writer and even a researcher. Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 101 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. This was my first college writing course and it has given me much more freedom when writing because in high school I felt limited and like what we were writing was not very important. Writing papers has been one of my biggest fears as a student. High school English class prepared me for the editing of my essays, for example, grammatical errors, spelling, font errors, and things that were under the category of fixing my paper.
