To begin with, defining the term deviant behaviors is in order to understand the issues concerning reality shows. “The definition of deviant means to be diverse from what is considered to be morally correct or common” (Deviant. (n.d.). In other words, a person cannot act socially correct/ normal in character. “The next term to consider is behaviors meaning the manner of how one conducts themselves” (Behavior. (n.d.). Thus, connecting the two words together means, how a person conducts themselves without morals or against the grain, from good too bad in a socialized perspective. For example, the show Love and Hip Hip-Hop Atlanta, which airs on Monday’s at 8:00pm consisting of women and men cast members, mostly African- American and a variety of sexual genders and orientation. As other shows, this show in particular has received numerous complaints and criticism for the display of deviant behaviors of cast members. The shows portrays a melting pot of each character lives with money, sex, social media, and relationships unfiltered and toxic, yet irrelevant to the real –world. Another key point is the exploitation of the television world and the millions of viewers, that it’s okay sociably to exemplify deviant behaviors in real –life. Also, culturally and sociably, the reality show creates a bigger problem as the platform provided for the cast is characterized in a negative state.
