Reality In Hawthorne's Young Goodman Brown

Reality is the name for all physical existence as an object in the universe or what has existed, exists, or will exist. Reality is one of the many points established in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Young Goodman Brown. Young Goodman Brown’s experience in the dark forest leads him to believe that everyone is hiding their true self. In which he finds himself in a fight between a dream and reality, that later shape his views of human nature.
Without delay, Hawthorne begins by introducing Faith and the meaning behind her. She first appears in the story with pink ribbons tied into her hair while her husband departures towards his journey into the woods. At a first glance, both her name and the ribbons did not seem to be anything important. Early in his journey, he encounters the devil who claims to know his family. “‘My father never went into the woods on such an errand, nor his father before him. We have been a race of honest men and good Christians, since the days of the martyrs. And shall I be the first of the name of Brown, that ever took this path and kept’ — ‘Such company, thou wouldst say,’ observed the elder person, interrupting his pause. ‘Well said, Goodman Brown! I have been as well acquainted with your family…’” (Hawthorne). Young Goodman Brown believed that his father was a good Christian, but to his surprise, he also took part in the satanic gathering.
