So if you like weed and you like coffee, the whole concept of rise and shine just got a whole, whole lot better. Now, there's a company making single-serving coffee pods -- that are laced with marijuana.

If you appreciate a little AM weed but don't necessarily want to smoke it, this coffee is for you. It's made by Brewbudz, they're based in San Diego, and don't you already know where this is going? That's right: they've made single-serving coffee pods that contain THC in each and every single one. That comes with the "West Coast "Roast" flavor, which admittedly sounds a little too good to be true.

And what's more, pods only cost about $7 apiece so it's still better than most coffee shops -- AND there's no line. The pods fit into Keurig brewers, which is convenient, and they're 100 percent compostable. It's like, enough with the bells and whistles, right? Where can we get these pods?
Brewbudz will launch their pods into markets in Colorado and Nevada, where stuff like this is legal, coming in January. But never fear -- by March, the pot coffee will be available in Arizona, California, Oregon and Washington.
What About the Laws?
Now, according to the federal government all marijuana is illegal. It's actually classified as a Schedule I drug -- as is heroin. The legalization of marijuana is a smoldering topic that sparks a debate anytime someone brings up the controversial subject. It is listed on the top of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) drug schedule listing as a controlled Schedule I substance. To understand that we have to go back to a time just after the Mexican Revolution. Right around the 1900s, American saw a crazy amount of hispanic influx into the country, most notably in Texas. Americans being Americans didn’t take to this too well, so like a 1900s Trump they sought ways to control these immigrants. These Mexican immigrants brought their culture with them when they moved to the United States, part of that culture being the use of marijuana, or “marihuana” as they spelled it, for recreational use. At the time, Americans were not unfamiliar with the use of the drug. We knew it very well as cannabis, and used it in many many medicines. In an effort to demonize the Mexican immigrants that was moving into their state, Texans made an effort to control aspects of their culture, use of marijuana. Most ridiculously was that colored individuals who smoked marijuana were more likely to rape or solicit a white women for sex. The first law that regarded marijuana in America required farmers to grow hemp in the year 1619 for clothing, rope, and other materials, but “as early as 1840, doctors recognized the medical applications of marijuana, and the drug was freely sold in pharmacies for over a century.” (Rich and Stingl). In 1937, the use and possession of marijuana was made illegal, but “before 1937 marijuana was freely bought, sold, grown, and used.”(Rich and Stingl). In 1970 the congress decided to classify marijuana as a schedule one drug, which has made the legalization more difficult, “schedule one drugs are considered dangerous, addictive, and have no medical benefits.”(Rich and Stingl). Marijuana fits the schedule one drug classification because marijuana is dangerous to people’s health, has been found to be addictive if used daily, and also has no medical benefits because marijuana can cause more health problems than it can cure.

Marijuana is illegal in most of our nation, but it is gaining popularity fast. Right now in this country (and many other countries for that matter) we are experiencing a transitional period that is dependent on legislation, legislation that is bound to reinforce or oppress marijuana legalization. It’s not every day that states have policy that conflicts with federal laws and everyone seems to have an opinion. There are many options on the table for law makers. We could see the federal government enforce their current marijuana laws by cracking down and increase their raids on dispensaries, or they could make marijuana a higher priority with agencies from the DEA to local law enforcement. Another option is to loosen up on what some would deem a “futile” war on drugs; the end result would be each individual state deciding if medicinal marijuana would be ideal for their state. Last but not least there is the route that the states Colorado and Washington took which is to legalize marijuana for recreational use. Every option has their pros and cons. However I believe the option where the pros most heavily outweigh the cons is legalizing recreational use.
