Albert Einstein once said,”It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.” Technology has been both beneficial and damaging to society, such as Ray Bradbury’s text,” There Will Come Soft Rain.” In my opinion, technology has harmed society because it is allowing humans to become lazy, unreliable, and dependent on technology.
Some may say that technology isn’t as supportive as it is known for. For instance, “They thudded against chairs, whirling their mustached runners, kneading the rug nap, sucking gently at hidden dust. Then, like mysterious invaders, they popped into their burrows. Their pink electric eyes faded. The house was clean”(9 Bradbury). Specifically, this means that humans don’t have to do anything since it has already been done for them by the robots. As a consequence, the humans are getting use to not having any responsibilities and being worry free. On the other hand, “From attic trapdoors, blind robot faces peered down with faucet mouths gushing green chemical.” Showing how the robots are trying to help the humans by cleaning up for them. This means that technology is helpful to society since the robots are trying to save the people. A different view would be, “An aluminum wedge scraped them into the sink, where hot water whirled them down a metal throat which digested and flushed them away to the distant sea. The dirty dishes were dropped into a hot washer and emerged twinkling dry”(7 Bradbury). In view of this the humans were worry free since they didn’t have to do chores because everything was easily cleaned by the robots.
