History (Writer info) There was a lot riding on Tangled when it first came out. One reason for this was that, after more than a decade in development, the movie was rumored to have cost about $260 million to make, which would be more than any other animated film to date. (Teeman 6) Another reason was that the animated feature Disney had released prior to Tangled, The Princess and the Frog, did not do as well as expected at the box office. This lack of success was attributed to the fact that The Princess and the Frog was strongly marketed as “princess movie,” and therefore alienated young male audiences. That conclusion resulted in Disney shelving its development of a fairy tale called The Snow Queen, and it’s also how Tangled got its name. …show more content…

So as Rapunzel draws close to him in order to use her hair to heal him, Flynn takes hold of her hair and cuts it off. The magic of Rapunzel’s hair rapidly disappears and Mother Gothel screams as her body becomes old and decrepit. A writhing Gothel trips and falls out the tower window but her body turns to dust before she even reaches the ground. So the climax of Gothel’s story ends in her death. Meanwhile, even though Rapunzel is at last completely free at the end of her climax, she is faced with Flynn’s impending death. This is the climax of Flynn’s story, when he tells Rapunzel that she was his new dream, an emotional confession of his love for her. Rapunzel responds that he was her new dream as well, and then Flynn appears to breathe his last. But as Rapunzel weeps over Flynn, the truth comes out that the power of the magic flower is still inside of her, when one of her tears falls on Flynn’s cheek and blossoms with healing light. All is made right as Flynn awakens and Rapunzel kisses him soundly. Next, the truth comes out for Flynn that in helping Rapunzel regain her freedom and her family, he has achieved his overall want of obtaining a sense of self-worth and found a new life for himself with her family.
