My thoughts on Chance The Rapper’s acceptance speech from the grammy awards is that I really did not enjoy how he just made up the speech in the pressure of the moment. This was his first award so he did not expect to win and one can see that he did not plan a speech or even thought about practice one. Chance The Rapper kept on saying um, and yeah since he did not know what to say. However, he kept on repeating the same phrases because he wanted everyone to know the reason as to why he believes he received the Grammy award. I feel as though he did not know his speech since he was all over the place. Chance The Rapper just kept referring to independence since he knows that is something that everyone likes to consider themselves as. During Chance
David Hicks was a 34 year old black male. He was on death row in Texas from December of 1987 to April of 1988, sentenced to die by lethal injection for rape and murder, on April 25th 1988, of his 87-year-old grandmother, Ms. Ocolor Heggar. David was only a suspect because he was near her house at the time of the crime. There was no indication that he had been inside¡Xexcept, for DNA evidence. The DNA test determined that similarities between sections of DNA removed from David¡¦s blood and DNA recovered from semen in Ms. Heggar¡¦s house would occur only one time in a total of 96 million people.
The Acceptance Speech for the Nobel Peace Prize, written by Elie Wiesel, helps us understand the past and honor the victims that had died during the Holocaust. Elie Wiesel brought up some good points in his speech. Three points he brought up in his speech help us honor the Holocaust victims. Those points are: understanding what the Jews had to go through, stepping into another time period, so we can visualize what happened during this time, and remembering the tragic event known as the Holocaust, so we don’t repeat it. Literature can help us remember and honor the victims of the Holocaust.
When I was in elementary school, I loved to read. I was a total nerd back then ... okay maybe I still am, but one thing has changed. Now I don't so much like reading. My favorite poet was Shel Silverstein, who wrote "Where the Sidewalk Ends." He seemed like he was a total hippie, but that's cool because I like hippies. My grandma is a recovering hippie. I like her too. Anyway, Shel Silverstein wrote about the coolest things. He wrote about magical erasers, eating whales and a boy with long hair flying away from people who were taunting him. He captured all of the things that I loved without knowing that I actually loved them. Now you may ask, how does this hippie relate to our graduation? Well, he wrote a poem entitled "Traffic Light" and this is how it goes:

Over the past four years, we have grown from insecure, immature freshmen to successful, focused and confident young adults. This incredible transformation has been the result of our entire high school experience. Everything from that first homecoming game, to late night cramming, to the last dance at prom. These experiences have pulled us together as a class and we have learned to love and respect our fellow classmates.
Born in New York City in 1971, Tupac Shakur, also known by his stage name 2Pac, was an American rapper. Shakur has sold more than 75 million albums worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists in the world. Most of Tupac's songs are about growing up amid violence, hardships in ghettos, racism, and social conflicts with other rappers during the East and West Coast hip hop rivalry. Shakur was shot and killed in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1996 at age 25. On the day of the shooting Pac was living his usual life; he was in the eye of all the paparazzi, spending ridiculous amounts of money most of us dream to spend. Hello there Mr. President I am Alexus. I’ve heard you’re looking for ideas for a new television series. Well in that case I have a few ideas to elaborate to you. My show is basically a comedy, music, and game show all in one. Exciting right? How amazing does that sound?
Jim Valvano was the head coach for the North Carolina State Wolfpack in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). In 1992, he was diagnosed with terminal cancer and as a result he created the V Foundation, whose raises money for cancer research. In 1993, Valvano won the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage at the ESPY’s. In his acceptance speech, Valvano effectively incorporates the three appeals of speech writing, but uses a strong ethos appeal to capture the audience. Through such a strong ethos appeal, Valvano makes himself worthy for the award he is receiving, which is the goal for any acceptance speech. Valvano’s speech is also effective because he uses four of the six parts of a speech, found in the Ad Herenium. In Valvano’s speech, exordium, narration, proof, and peroration are present. Since the purpose of this speech is not to get the hearers to donate, division (showing the difference between you and your opponent) and refutation (lowering your opponent’s arguments) are not needed. So let us go through Valvano’s speech to see the different parts where he makes his ethos appeal.
Betty Lou is right -- Our achievements of the past four years have been an honor. And so I offer my congratulations to each of you for achieving the honor that comes with high school graduation. Up to this point, high school may be the most exciting and difficult experience of our lives. We've enjoyed the carefree and happy times with WWF-style pep assemblies, dances, Junior T-P nights, and classes with friends. We've had our bad days too, though. The days when we forgot our semester project for C.I. at home, or when we couldn't stop falling asleep and Mr. Gnome made us get up to "open a window." But far worse were the times when we felt alone. We've all had days of personal crisis when we've felt rejected by those around us or alienated from them. Hopefully, we were fortunate enough to have had a friend come rescue us from isolation, but perhaps not.
Albert Camus's "Banquet Speech" is revolved around the meaning of art. He defines art as a concept of connecting communities as a whole. Although, art is not a reason for the artist to distinct themselves from the real world. Camus stands behind this when he admits his art is to foresee the truth behind this world and to see deeper into the people suffering from the truth. For him, as the writer, he believes his art work reaches out to everyone because he does not see himself any different from the readers. They are all the same. No judgements or hatred takes place in the piece of work but only the beauty of the community.
The Class of 2012. How long have we heard these words applied to us? Long years starting with broken crayons in kindergarten to inside-out sweatshirts in middle school to late English essays — 13 years of learning from the simplest counting to complicated algebra and calculus, from reciting our ABCs to reading Shakespeare. Imagine, us coming out of our respective middle schools into this monster of a campus. With three times as many people — people who drive. People who have cars and are legal adults. We’ve been here for four years. Count the quarters: there are 16 of them.
Well, here we are. Sitting in this stuffy gym wearing these unflattering robes, while the band is poised and ready to play “Pomp and Circumstance.” We’ve always known this day would come and, whether our teachers, our parents or ourselves are prepared for it, here it is. We’re about to take that giant leap in just a few minutes and after that, it’s time to make our own choices. No longer will our biggest decisions entail which person to ask to prom or which period would be the best to TA during. Now our choices will begin to revolve around which bills we need to pay and what job we want to be doing 20 years from now. And whether you choose to earn a degree, get a job certification or immediately start working, there are some universal choices that everyone should make to ensure a fulfilling life for ourselves and our families.
It is probably a mistake that I am standing here giving a speech for graduation. In fact it is probably a mistake that I am even graduating from this school at all -- believe me, just as most people in this class I have tested the limits of attendance, of sleeplessness, and of procrastination. At the beginning of my high schooling, I was even testing dropping out ... and if that wasn't a mistake, I don't know what was. After four years of Starr altering our minds, it seemed most fitting for me to spend my four minutes talking about mistakes. Thank goodness for them, by the way -- it is only when we truly screw up big time that we are ever stopped in our tracks -- stopped, briefly, to learn lessons of worth.
The presidential election of 1988 marks an end to eight years of Reagan administration. As the nominee opposing republican candidate George Bush, Michael Dukakis' role is great: he embodies the new Democrat, who could turn the US away from the social darwinism that successions of republican governments, as well as leftover Red Scare, led to. The main theme in his speech was unsurprisingly the social issue. But, more daring, Candidate Dukakis also introduced the voters to a new view on international politics, modern adaptation of a feeling that was mainly witnessed during the post-Vietnam period.
We are to leave here today with a new set of wings. Wings of which we have crafted through our years of attending school. Some will soar high with their strong wings built of good personality and hard work; others will glide through life needing repairs. If we leave here today with one thing, let it be the power to achieve the goals that we’ve set forth for ourselves. Most of us have been helped through our four years at Big Falls, whether it be Bridgette Moore with advice on life, Mr. Bridgett checking if you’re on track to graduate, Mr. Young always letting your flaws stand out, Mr. Nrure pushing you to not make any bad decisions and especially Mr. Floss who taught me that a woman can go beyond the stereotypes and learn how to weld.
