It is natural for retired soldiers to have a loss in identity, morals and be somewhat depressed. “War changes everything in a soldier's mind.” This is noticeable in the songs Hero of war by Rise Against, 21 Guns by Green Day. The director Ted Kotcheff portrays this in the scene where Rambo emotionally breaks down because of the names and stereotyping Rambo and other soldiers have been named. These stereotypes that the public have said have been expressed through Rambo’s emotions and shows how it has affected his identity. The director wants us to think about the statement “they spat at me and called me baby murderer and sh-- like that!”. We can see the hurt and confusion Rambo's feeling because the people he is fighting for are accusing of “baby murderer” when he should be praised as a war hero. Further on in the film Norm in battle shows shows the anger and loss of moral standards he has for himself in the script where he says “F---ing Nazis”. This statement defines the change that has occurred emotionally. At the start of the film Norm is illustrated as a young typewriter and later on transitions into a soldier an “animal” or what was portrayed to be a “man” in those times. David Ayer helps define how a man can change in war and the anger inside soldiers that can't be blamed on any one thing. Because of Norms morals he distanced himself from the other soldiers and doesn't think of himself as one of them. The director David Ayer also helps us understand the change mentally that occurs during war this can be easily related to teenagers because of the mental and emotional change that happens during
