Ralph Waldo Emerson was an American writer and poet who led the transcendentalist movement of the mid-19th century. In 1841 he wrote and essay call Circles. The essay has a lot of ideas but the main thrust of argument is that people must seek the truth throw ideas. Furthermore, Emerson dealt with abstruse concepts, so it was very difficult for me to fully and clearly understand this essay and his point of view. I believe that Emerson found a way of living and away of thinking that suited him, but I believe every individual must live according to their own beliefs. Hinduism today notes that Emerson’s left Christianity because he thought that Jesus was a wise man, but not the son of god and that truth can only be found inside but never taught. He started meditating and believing in karma even before Hinduism existed. Also, he was studying the Hindu scriptures Vedas.This is probably true because the way he talks in the essay Circles reminds me of the way Gandhi talked in the movie about his life. Emerson starts meditating when he was seventeen years old and wrote some books about meditation such “Reparative men” . Also, Emerson became a Unitarian minister in Boston like his father, but the death of his brother, wife and kids changed his ideas and view of life . Furthermore, He starts seeing life as just waking up, eating and sleeping. Furthermore, Emerson appreciates a great man not a common man. He was conflicted and he only liked the man who sees what he see and agree what he agree with. Part of Emerson’s dissatisfaction with the common man is their inability to come up with new ideas on their own because many people get their ideas from friends or family or media sources.
