In Lord of the Flies the survivors began to organize themselves by creating a hierarchy and then later assigning boys to groups to complete various duties or small tasks. In the movie they choose a chief by first gathering together and discussing that they should have a head boy so everything runs smoothly. The boys voted between Jack and Ralph, but Ralph one the election and became chief. The boys became organized as a democracy where they voted for Ralph to become chief and from there on out he would give orders.

In the film when Ralph became leader everything was civil and organized for some time until the boys became true savages. This exercises the point that Hobbs sought out which was that people were by nature, selfish, and surrendered freedom for government order. In the film all the boys where given tasks by Ralph such as gathering fire wood, as well as collecting food and water. These rules where given by him in which they had to stick by in order to survive and get rescued. They also had to fall under Ralphs orders and surrender their freedom and had to be obedient and listen to whatever the he said. This shows that in order to prevent anarchy the boys had to cut away from having fun and enjoying themselves but instead they would have to stick to the regulations put out for them to obey which they did not enjoy. They did not want to be stuck down to a structured routine and did not want to put in the effort. In this case Thomas Hobbs was correct in saying that there has to be a monarchy in order to keep law and order. When the boys split up into two groups there was no longer any order. In Jacks tribe they were able to do whatever they pleased, creating very dangerous situations causing them to become violent and crazy. In Jacks crew the boys where very chaotic, but Jack kept them organized by ruling them with constant fear so they would stay loyal to his instructions or either get thrown to the
