People in today’s society believe that stereotyping and racism is a thing in the past. This statement is however not true. There will always be people who are racist and stereotype people for the purpose of feeling superior. One major area that gets this issue in the world of sports, specifically professional sports. This issue is one that is not stated and put into the public's eye. The professional sports world and public need to be more aware of the problem that is not being reported out by the journalist. For years the world of professional sports had been dominated by whites, with little to no minorities playing in leagues. Some of these actions are unsportsmanlike and should be criticized for what they do during games, but some of these criticism are to a ridiculous degree. In Blackistone’s article he says, “That this egotistical style is showing how poor of a role model they are for kids and they should instead show enthusiasm in other ways for their accomplishments” (Blackistone). This statement partly diminishes his statement he was saying through his article. By celebrating after scoring once in awhile and having some fun on the sideline in the appropriate point of a game is important to show to kids. By doing this it shows children to have fun while playing like they did when they were young. However, other NFL players that are not of minority have been known to even show boat and dance after scoring. Aaron Rodgers, quarterback for the Packers, has a signature dance after scoring a touchdown that has never been criticized. Blackistone states in his article that, “It’s even been endorsed by the insurance company State Farm to use in commercial” (Blackistone). He is effectively making his statement here by using ethos building his credibility by citing the company State Farm using Aaron Rodgers dance in their own commercials.
