Racism is defined as the belief that one race posses something better or more superior than another race. Racism and Racial Discrimination has been around for 2 Centuries. It started off in medieval times. Often rulers would be Prejudice or would have Racial Assumptions point toward a peasant because of his/her appearance or wealth. From there slavery took over. During MOST of the 19th century, and all of the 20th century, slavery ruled. If you were “colored” a termed used for African American, you were thought of as less than trash. African Americans faced 4 of the 7 most common types of Racial Discrimination. They faced Prejudice, Racial Assumptions, Harassment and Systematic Racism. What is Racial Discrimination? Nowadays people don’t even know because they don’t take the time to learn about one of the biggest threats to our society as a whole. There are 7 most common types of Racial Discrimination. They are Prejudice, Racial Assumptions, Racial Jokes/Slurs, Discrimination, Harassment, Systematic or other times called Institutional Racism and Micro-Inequalities. Let me explain these seven a little more for you. Prejudice, this is the behavior of individuals basing their superiority by their racial or physical characteristics. Racial Assumptions, these are the quiet assumptions that we hold on other races. Such as you think because he is black he is a hoodlum or loves fried chicken. Or because he is Chinese he is very good in math or has squinty eyes. Racial Jokes/Slurs; this is very self explanatory. This is the most common use of racism in the workplace. Fellow Coe-workers will reinforce stereotypical comments and racial assumptions. Discrimination, this is the act of treating anyone of a different ethnicity, culture, co... ... middle of paper ... ...are lazy and will only slack off and try to come at my female employees” I was upset but couldn’t say anything. That was probably my only time I ever dealt with a type of discrimination. The evidence and proof that I have shown you will hopefully point your opinion towards my topic in my direction. Nowadays people don’t even know about Racial Discriminations affect on us now because they don’t take the time to learn about one of the biggest threats to our society as a whole. It is vitally important that we start paying attention to our surroundings and it would actually be better if we could do something about it. You see it every day, black on black violence. We tear each other apart for what? Street creditability? Money? Popularity? All things that is irrelevant. We need more love in the world. Less love towards the negatives and move love towards the positives.
