Racism is defined as the belief that one race posses something better or more superior than another race. Racism and Racial Discrimination has been around for 2 Centuries. It started off in medieval times. Often rulers would be Prejudice or would have Racial Assumptions point toward a peasant because of his/her appearance or wealth. From there slavery took over. During MOST of the 19th century, and all of the 20th century, slavery ruled. If you were “colored” a termed used for African American, you were thought of as less than trash. African Americans faced 4 of the 7 most common types of Racial Discrimination. They faced Prejudice, Racial Assumptions, Harassment and Systematic Racism. What is Racial Discrimination? Nowadays people don’t even know because they don’t take the time to learn about one of the biggest threats to our society as a whole. There are 7 most common types of Racial Discrimination. They are Prejudice, Racial Assumptions, Racial Jokes/Slurs, Discrimination, Harassment, Systematic or other times called Institutional Racism and Micro-Inequalities. Let me explain these seven a little more for you. Prejudice, this is the behavior of individuals basing their superiority by their racial or physical characteristics. Racial Assumptions, these are the quiet assumptions that we hold on other races. Such as you think because he is black he is a hoodlum or loves fried chicken. Or because he is Chinese he is very good in math or has squinty eyes. Racial Jokes/Slurs; this is very self explanatory. This is the most common use of racism in the workplace. Fellow Coe-workers will reinforce stereotypical comments and racial assumptions. We tear each other apart for what? Street creditability? Money? Popularity? All things that is irrelevant. We need more love in the world. The racism theme is prevalent in the novel and it shows the fact how African Americas were treated by white people.
A stereotype is an exaggerated generalization used to describe a group of people. Discrimination is the unequal treatment of different categories of people. An example of a stereotype would be the generalization that a majority of African American youth are gangbangers or criminals. An example of discrimination would be the mocking of an Asian student’s accent each time they spoke in class. This racism was a result of the racist belief that black Africans were less human than white Europeans.
Racial stereotypes, the automatic and mental pictures that people hold about members of a certain race. Stereotypes can be found for any race or ethnicity and are typically generalized to a whole group of people, rather than to one individual and their differences. Although racism itself is not as common in today’s world, racial stereotypes do exist and are very common. The popular sitcom, The Office, addresses the serious issue of racial stereotypes by Michael Scott to its audience with different races of characters.

Racism in this day and age is still as big of a problem as it was in the past, and as long as hate groups are still around to promote violence, society is never going to grow to love one another.
Racial discrimination is prejudice behaviour towards a person, based on their race. It is when someone is subject to abusive deportment because they are from a different race. These actions occur in every day society because people don’t think, act or believe in the same things as they do. Racial discrimination causes people to feel that they are unwelcome to be that they were born and raised to become. This causes serious effects on that person’s life and everyone else’s who comes into contact with them, as they may become withdrawn or even change the way they are just to fit in. This issue causes many people to feel like there is no peace or justice towards them, as they are apart of the overall world population.
