Racial inequality is a social problem that persists in Canada, this social problem has an effect on, or is perpetuated by, individual citizens, as well as larger Canadian social systems. The last media analysis that was written deducted that racial inequality persists in contemporary Canadian society. Racial inequality was proved to exist in modern day society, and was also proven to be a social problem that is often disregarded and not properly addressed. Now that it is known that such a huge social problem actually does exists, there is now the question of why does racial inequality continue to exist in such a modern day society? Therefore, this article outlines 3 theories to explain why racial inequality continues to persist in modern day society. The first theory discussed in relation to racial inequality, is the broad concept of deficiency theories. Deficiency theories state that racial inequality and the perceived inferiority of minority groups is due to the fact that there is often some sort of deficiency within the minority groups. Specifically, minority groups face a deficiency biologically, structurally, and culturally. Biological deficiency holds that racial inequality is due to the natural and biological inferiority of minority groups. However, the idea of biological inferiority and deficiency within minority groups holds no biological truth. In this way, this article pointed out an idea that although it may be wrong, some individuals still use to justify and explain why racial inequality exists. Furthermore, this idea of biological inferiority is an idea that is meant to explain racial inequality, but it actually just perpetuates racial inequality by claiming minority groups are inferior when they are not. Another deficiency outlined in this article, is structural deficiency. Which is the idea that racial inequality is due to defects in the social structures of minority groups. This article specifically points out that although federal legislation bans the unequal treatment of people based on their race, racial inequality exists because all members of our society continuously construct this social problem. This article is relatively vague in answering the question of why does racial inequality continue to exist? However, this article still gives many explanations that are missing from the other articles that have been analyzed. This article points out that there is a social problem that remains unsolved, and that is the racial discrimination faced by Asians, Africans, and Aboriginals in contemporary Canadian society. This article points out that individuals who in the past received an extreme amount of racial inequality (French Canadians, Jewish Canadians, etc.) are thought to be more conscious of racial inequality and not partake in this. However, this isn’t the reality as racial inequality is manifested by everyone in society as a whole, and it wouldn’t be as big of a problem as it is if everyone wasn’t actively constructing it. Therefore, the explanation presented in this article is that all members of society actively construct racial inequality, knowingly and unknowingly and that is why it continues to persist in such a modern day
