Racial colorblindness is rooted in the beliefs that racial group membership and race-based differences should not be taken into account when decisions are made, impressions are formed, and behavior is inactive. Isn’t that what we want? For everyone to be treated equally? Color blindness is considered to be the new racism. People who enjoy racial privilege are closing their eyes to the experience of others. The failure to see and acknowledge racial differences make it difficult to recognize the unconscious biases everyone has. In society people typically avoid discussing race because everyone wants to reduce their odds of exhibiting prejudice or engaging in discrimination. The racial ideology of colorblindness prescribes that the best way to end discrimination is to consider individuals as complete equals. You cannot eliminate privilege now can you completely disassemble biases; but by increased awareness you can create an environment where equality is the norm.
There are different types of color blindness; which includes educational, organizational, legal, societal, and there are alternative approaches. Educational color blindness refers to children of young ages being heavily influenced by the opinions of their role models. There is evidence that has proven that by the age of 10 years old, color blindness becomes children’s model approach for dealing with race-relevant situations. When it comes to organizational color blindness studies have shown that minority applicants responded favorably to racial organizations that endorse a culture of color blindness, but they are skeptical of such messages when they are endorsed by organizations …show more content…

There are continually new problems, as well as old ones, between races occurring on a day-to-day bases. Racial color blindness is a mindset that is often taught at a young age like we talked about earlier (pertaining to educational color blindness). Since this topic is something that is believed to be taught, then it is also something that can be changed. Whether that be from a personal experience or even by an individual acquiring more knowledge on the issue over time. Racial color blindness is an issue that does not just affect one race but all, therefore, making it an extremely important and also controversial topic. It is a tough topic to discuss though because each race comes from different cultures that do not always understand or agree with each
