The Crucible by Arthor Miller, starts of with some of the village girls dancing in the woods when they are caught by Parris. The next day Parris daughter wouldn't not wake up and neither would the Puttams girl. So the towns people started to call witch craft on the girls for dance in the woods was not acceptable at the time. The girl started to get nervous and didn’t want to be accused so they confessed and then say they saw people with the devil. The trails of witch craft started with the girls as the witnesses and would pretend to faint or be choked but the accused. (crucible page 1131) This shows Integrity for Parris is saying that what Abby did is wrong and that it will ruin his good named. in this it is showing Integrity in a negative way for Parris is only caring for what the towns people will think of him. Irony- For John starts off with affair with Abby,Parris niece and his wife knows about it but, wont say anything. For she doesn't want to ruin his good name, but at the end of the book he tells everyone about it to help save his name. This shows my theme for he didn't care in the end about his named but more about his wife safety showing Integrity. Symbolism- John didn't give in an confess to witch craft but instead he end up getting hung, he stands for all the people that took the punishment of death instead of confessing. This shows Integrity for John knew that he would be hung unless he confessed to crimes he did not do and for that he did the right thing even though he could have taken the easy way
