A quinceanera is more than just a regular fifteen year old's party. It is the day in a teenagers life where we celebrate the transition of a girl to a young lady. Ever since I was a little girl, I had always dreamed of having a beautiful quinceanera. I imagined myself wearing a gorgeous poofy dress, and a huge sparkly crown. My mom and I had talked about this day for years, and it came faster than we imagined. Boom! It was finally the day I had been waiting for for years. On November 17, 2012, I had my Quinceanera. It was held at the Riverplace in Freeport, Texas. The morning of my Quinceanera I was definitely a chicken running around everywhere. My stress level was as high as my mom's when she deals with my siblings. The process of getting ready before the party was extremely stressful. My room looked like a mini hurricane had flew in. That morning was definitely a process to get ready, but I made it through. The only thing that was on my mind was getting to the salon and dancing all night. …show more content…
All eyes were on me that day, and it was an amazing feeling. The food that was served at my Quinceanera were delicious sizzling fajitas with rice and beans. They smelled like heaven on a plate. My mouth was watering from just looking at it. Everyone seemed to love the food as much as I did and I was happy that they did. Once we were done eating, it was time for the party to
Envision stepping into the room, seeing your guess smile and talk quietly, the atmosphere of the room glowing, and feeling the warmth grow inside your chest as you know you planned a successful Quinceanera. The day a girl of the hispanic culture turns 15, is the day her fantasies come to life; and she becomes a women. Quinceaneras carry lots of quarks, small details, and ideas; but with these simple steps it can be perfected.
One of the most important customs in Latin America is a quinceañera. This tradition can date all the way back to 500 B.C. Not only that, but it’s been traced back to Aztec’s culture as well. It’s been said that the quinceañera tradition was supposedly adopted, when the Spanish took over America. Once the tradition was adopted, they put a Catholic Church in to replace the Aztec Temple. As we all know, this event is celebrated all across Latin America, the Caribbean, and is becoming increasingly more popular in the United States too. Like I said this Hispanic tradition has taken root into the United States, many Non...
In 1943 the quintuplets left the only home they ever knew of “Quintland.” This year after a nine year battle their parents Oliva and Elzrie Dionne recovered custody of the quintuplets. On December 28, 1943 Dr. Allan Dafoe officially signed an agreement releasing himself as one of the quintuplet’s guardians. In the girls nine years at “Quintland” their parents had become infrequent visitors and were made unwelcome at the facility. In an interview in 1995 Cecile Dionne inquired that her mother, Elzire Dionne was, “afraid we loved the nurse more than her.” They didn’t know who their mother or father were they had become complete strangers in their years at “Quintland.” The quintuplets also had nine other siblings all by single births who they
Have you set off for the coast of the Gulf of Mexico and a current pushed you all the way to the coast of Tampa bay, Florida? In 1528, a current pushed Cabeza De Vaca and 300 other men to southwest Florida. When they arrived cabeza ordered the 300 men to abandon the ships and go on the island and search for treasure. The men had to figure a way to travel to west Mexico from Tampa Bay, Florida. After months the goal was no longer colonization, it was survival. Cabeza De Vaca survived by developing surviving skills, getting resources, and meeting new people.
Do I even want to have a sweet sixteen? I’ve never seen myself as the quintessential “princess”, in a flowing dress and mile high tiara. I could just wait until my eighteenth, then I’d be considered an adult, at least in American society. Do I even want a Quinceanera? It revolves around the church so much it’s practically the sun and the earth. Besides, could I even have a Quinceanera? My family would have to travel all the way to Mexico.
Hola mi amo Selena Quintanilla. Hello, my name is Selena Quintanilla. I was the first woman latin singer in Tejano, Mexico, and I was shot and killed by the president of my fan club. I was born in Lake Jackson, Texas. I was the youngest child of Marcella & Abraham Quintanilla. In the year 1980 my father opened a Tex-Mex restaurant at which we, his children, performed as a band for customers. Our band was named Selena Y Los dinos, slang for Selena and the Boys. I started playing at the restaurant at age 8, in 1982. My father moved the family from Lake Jackson to Corpus Christi after the restaurant failed. We released our first single under Freddie Records in Corpus Christi. Our first song was “Tu Eres” in the year 1983. I won the female vocalist and performer of the year award at the
The second family that I interviewed was the Lyles family. Both Bro. Scotty, the father, and Mrs. Yolanda, the mother, participated in the interview and three of their children were in the room. Bro. Scotty was born and raised in Alba, Texas on the very same tree farm that he owns and operates today; he is also a deacon at our church. However, Mrs. Yolanda was born and raised in Guatemala. As a child she was raised Catholic, and is part of a large and growing family. She is one of eight children. Their family as well as anybody else in that culture celebrated their daughter’s 15th birthday with a Quinceañera which marked the transition from childhood to young womanhood. This was traditionally the first time the girls would wear make-up, nice
When Cabeza de Vaca came to the "New World" he was just one of over 300 conquistadores led by Panphilo de Narvaez. They sailed to the New World and landed in Flordia. Struggling to find their way through the swamps and wetlands, their problems only increased when they were killed one-by-one by the Native American tribes (the Seminole tribes). Hoping to save their lives after running out of food, the conquistadores went back to the sea. However when they arrived they saw that their ships and commrades had assumed that they were dead and left to sail back to Spain.
A Quinceanera is a hispanic tradition because it is to celebrate a girl's fifteenth birthday and her transition from childhood to adulthood, typically involving a mass followed by a party. All the family are gathered
Selena Quintanilla also known as the “ Mexican Madonna”. She was one of the greatest women singers loved worldwide. She started singing when she was young and started her singing career in her father restaurants and became too busy for school. Some of the genres of songs she liked to sing were Tejano, Mexican cumbia, and Mariachi. Another thing was that when she got murdered it had a great impact towards everyone that loved her. A great singer usually starts singing when they are little, and that is what Selenas dad made her do since she had such a amazing voice.
A quinceanera celebrates a young lady’s fifteenth birthday. This celebration is very similar to the American’s Sweet Sixteen birthday celebration. It is an exciting celebration that all the young ladies love. Of course, it can not be a quinceanera unless you have a tiara, cross or medal, bible and rosary, and scepter! Every young lady needs a tiara and a scepter! However, those are not the only things that make a quinceanera. There are also other traditions that must take place.
Selena Quintanilla-Pérez was a joyful, jubilant, free-spirited Mexican-American singer-songwriter. She grew up in Lake Jackson, Texas and made enormous contributions to the second wave of Tejano music, or la onda chicana (Chicano wave). The only difference between Tejano and Chicano music is that Tejano is the Spanish word for Texan and Chicano refers to Mexicans in general. The Tejano genre of music can also be referred to simply as Tex-Mex music. “All Tejano groups rely upon 3 common genres for their repertoires - polca-ranchera, the balada, and the cumbia” (Peña 185). Selena’s music uses all three sub-genres, as we shall see later on. In the second half of her life, Selena moved to Corpus Christi, TX where she stayed until her death. “Corpus
...ood that is served has many sides and is commonly brought out to the guest as they are watching the dance. The dessert is the most important part of dinner, because it is the birthday cake. The cake is the centerpiece of the party, and is decorated accordingly to the designs in the room. A quinceañera cake can be similar to a bridal cake in size and elegance. It is generally stacked and topped with gorgeous icing to attract attention. Loud music is played throughout the night for dancing and having a great time, celebrating a young Mexican girls fifteenth birthday.
There is a lot of history behind how Quinceañeras came about just like there is for several other cultural inspired events. The Mayans and the Aztecs first celebrated this event. What happened was that on a girl’s fifteenth birthday they were looked upon as a woman and ready to marry and have children. After her fifteenth birthday she would learn how to cook, clean and care for a house and children. If a woman did not end up marrying after her celebration then she would become a nun or stay home and take care of her parents. Women were looked highly upon and were valued and respected for their ability to bear children. Today, however, the celebration is more symbolic of adulthood and gaining responsibilities and opportunities to date and learn more about their culture and religion.
Selena Quintanilla Pérez was a famous Tex Mex woman who was a songwriter, fashion designer, a spokesperson, an actress, and a singer. Her life was filled with joy, music, performing, and she was loved by many. Unfortunately, things started to go downhill.
