Her monarch has remained dutiful, devoted, and dedicated to its people while also responding and adapting to shifts into modern day. Queen Elizabeth II would embark on her first independent tour in the Commonwealth (Bousfield and Toffoli 61), beginning in October of 1951. King George VI's health entered into a decline in 1952. Elizabeth along with Prince Philip would take the King's place on a Commonwealth tour due to his illness. The news of the King's death reached Elizabeth on February 6, 1952, while the royal couple was in Kenya. The monarchy is constitutional, so the power to make and pass legislation lies within the hands of the Parliament. She also has the less formal role of Head of Nation.
