Is Qin Shihuangdi a tyrant or a National hero? Qin Shihuangdi was known for many things how great he ruled his state and his harsh rules and punishments. In my opinion he is a tyrant, but he rules his state well. To start with, his punishments ends up with death reasons that cause those punishments are mostly if they had disobeyed him. Later on he got obsessed prospect of his own death so anyone who reveals his were about would die with his or her family. Then when Qin Shihuangdi heard of immortals living on an island sent a fleet out to search, they knew if they don't succeed the emperor will put them to their death. So as said most punishments end with death. Second of all, other people dislike him for spending lavish amount
Mao Zedong will forever live on history as a revolutionary, not only in China but across the globe. There are very few communist nations today because of the many difficulties of having a homogenous population, which shares the same ideals. Mao was able to modernize and re-socialize his citizens in a short amount of time. He defined himself as the face of change in China. Mao’s vision of equality for all Chinese citizens has still not been achieved but it is well on its way. The only question lies in, does the end justify the means.
According to Hammurabi, the punishment was death. One last felony that has different punishments
There may been times when people have been treated unfairly, just because of their appearance or their social life.
Consequences should be based on the severity of the crime. For example “Obierika remembered his wife’s twin children, who had thrown away to the Evil Forest to die” (Achebe,1944,P.125). He was forced to throw his own children away because the clan believed that twins were evil because they thought they were sent to bring devastation to a village by the Gods. As a result they were thrown to the Evil Forest to die. This was unfair to the children because they have not committed any crime, or harmed anyone in any way but had such a severe punishment just for being born. To add on, people had gotten punished for something they did not do. For instance during chapter seven “Umuofia has decided to kill him. The Oracle of the Hills and the Caves has pronounced it” (Achebe,1944,P.57). Ikemefuna was taken from his home and his family because of his father killing a woman of the Umuofia village. This is one example of the unfairness in Umuofia’s government because Ikemefuna was taken and killed for something his father did when he could have been punished for it. However their government system is still fair. As seen in chapter thirteen, “Okonkwo was to flee from the clan. It was a crime against the Earth goddess to kill a clansman, and a man who committed it must flee from the land (Achebe,1944,P.124). There was a set rule and it had no room for favoritism. Okonkwo was one of the most known warriors in the nine villages and because he accidently killed Ezeudu’s son he still had to leave the clan, which was fair because he killed a
Qin Dynasty’s government was in the style of a dictatorship and it was the of the first ones to ever exist.
Shi Huangdi was the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty who united China while it was experiencing civil war, also known as the Period of the Warring States. Through his Legalist ideas and integrity, Shi Huangdi was able to maintain political and social order by means of a centralized government. In under eleven years, he constructed the famous
After starting the Chinese Empire, Shihuangdi based the empire on a harsh law system called legalism and was also influenced by Confucianism. Since Shihuangdi was the only ruler of the empire, the government was considered a strong central monarchy. When the Chinese empire had a good start, they expanded their territories to northern Vietnam, Korea, and the northwest steppes. Shihuangdi believed the harsher the empire the more respected, so he invested heavily into a strong military army a...
Out of the three different thought systems, Legalism was a success in the sense that it achieved what the other two systems desperately strove for - the unification of China. "Qin conquered Yan in 226, Wei in 225, Chu in 223, Qu in 221. Now, in 221, it ruled the entire Chinese world and was ready to make that world over in the image of Qin" (Wills 41). Many of the Legalist ideas were quite thought provoking and praiseworthy; they believed in equality for all and government according to merit. However, the system gained a rotten reputation according to the ruthless rule of the First Emperor. Confucianism thus became the official Philosophy, gaining wide acceptance in China.
Li Si The "Historical Records," written by Sima Qian, is a historical account which showcases how the corrupted legalist system of the Qin Dynasty led to the loss of the Mandate of Heaven and the fall of the Empire. Qian, who lived during the Han Dynasty, used the example of Li Si, the Chief Minister of the Emperors of the Qin Dynasty, to emphasis the newly accepted Confucian values. It was the shortcomings of Li Si which led to the fall of the Qin Dynasty as well as his own death. However, Qian is careful to note that prior to his downfall, Li Si followed many Confucian values which allowed him to rise up from a commoner to his eventual position as Chief Minister.
The most infamous one should be the “burning of books”, it is also called “burning of books and burying of scholars”. Because of the outstanding role that Legalist played during the unification wars. Ying Zheng decided to keep utilize Legalist as the Qin’s guiding ideology. Along with the Legalist’s expansion. Emperor Ying Zheng started to burn the books, many ancient books and records were burnt for good except The History of Qin Dynasty and books on medicine, divination and tree planting, etc. All other schools were considered as “heterodox” at that time. The history event was proposed by Li Si, prime minister of the Qin and he is also a Legist. He stated that all works by scholars of different schools should be burnt; also that those who dare to satiric the rulers will get a death sentence along with their families; and that those who had not burned the listed books within one month will be banished to finish the community service. Because of this event, Ying Zheng and Li Si became the symbol of evil and brutal in people’s mind, which can be a lead of Qin’
A tyrant can be defined as a cruel and oppressive ruler. Andrew Jackson was president from 1829-1837,and it is still a controversial topic today on whether Jackson was a man of the people or a autocrat. Jackson’s power has been put to the test, dealing with the bank war, nullification in South Carolina, indian removal and the trail of tears. Jackson promised the United States to be a fair and humane president, history has proved otherwise. Overall with the destroying of so many native lives and the Force Bill, Jackson was a brutal president, he said he would be a ruler that led for the people, but he only listened to some Americans.
rebellious mind that disagrees with his alleged rulers. That is what makes him a hero.
More murderous than Hitler, more powerful than Stalin, in the battle of the Communist leaders Mao Zedong trumps all. Born into a comfortable peasant family, Mao would rise up to become China’s great leader. After leading the communists away from Kuomintang rule, he set out to modernize China, but the results of this audacious move were horrific. He rebounded from his failures time and again, and used his influence to eliminate his enemies and to purge China of its old ways. Mao saw a brighter future for China, but it was not within his grasp; his Cultural Revolution was not as successful as he had wanted it to be. Liberator, oppressor, revolutionary, Mao Zedong was the greatest emancipator in China’s history, as his reforms and actions changed the history of China and of the wider world.
...f this object. The qin was a very important element in Chinese society during the Han dynasty as it was one of the many aspects in the creation of the two opposing social identities within the same culture. Unlike the effect music had on diaspora communities, it was a factor in the divergence of people in a community.
The Ten Kings are said to judge the good and evil deeds of the deceased from the seventh day following his death until the second anniversary. Although they undergo judgement at the Court of this King, the relative weight of his good and evil deeds is not yet determined. That is, into which of the six paths he will be reborn is not decided. He is sent on to the second of the Ten Kings (King Shoko – Shakyamuni Buddha and others).
