The author’s message is given through use of put meaning behind the chrysanthemums in the story making them symbols for anamplitude of different meanings. The first meaning of what the chrysanthemum can symbolizes, is when Elisa interest peaks in when the opportunity to meet a tinker who provokes her interest in his lifestyle as a traveler who is in search of good weather. A new dialogue makes Elisa feel more openly and less manly when speaking to the stranger rather than her husband’s reiterating the same points of how strong of a women she is mentally and physically.
