Purpose The purpose of this paper is to review and understand the different ways technology can enhance physical education. The use of technology has a great influence on the strategies and teaching methods used by physical educators. Method/Results One way is to use electronic pedometers. Electronic pedometers allow students to determine the distance they walked ran or used other locomotor skills to move. Pedometers are widely used in fitness evaluations. With the use of these digital electronic pedometers, students can understand how far they have moved using the various locomotor skills done in physical education. It also allows students to determine the various distances for each activity they have completed in Physical education class. That technology can enhance physical education is with the use of hearth rate monitors. Students will learn how to wear, use and gather data form the heart rate monitor. With the use of heart rate monitors students will become knowledgeable of how and where they should be with their level of fitness against the fitness level of other students. “Heart monitors provide a way to measure improvements in fitness levels, below maximum effort, and recovery. “Online technology for physical education keeps students and teachers up to date with the latest developments in the use of technology in physical education”. (Siedentop, 2004, p.274) The internet also gives students different ways to interact in physical education; they can look up spots, games, and fun things to do when they are not in the classroom. It is important that students continue to participate in physical activity even when they are not in school. The computer revolutionized the way we live, work, and go to school. The use of a computer is very important to the physical education teacher. The greatest value of computers may reside in the ability to provide improved support to classroom instruction, and the variety of software programs that can be used in conjunction with physical education. Some programs are available to track grading, student fitness performance. Technology is such a big resource to physical education, and the reason that we need to have these forms of technology in physical education, is due to the fact that the nation is staggering through life with the worst health problems that it has ever faced. Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer in America. Lack of exercise is considered to be one of the major risk factors for heart disease. Conclusion Adopting a physical lifestyle early in life increases the likelihood that young children will learn to move and become more physically fit.

One of the most commonly asked questions about the novel Things Fall Apart is: why did Achebe choose a tragic hero, Okonkwo, as the main character in the story. According to Nnoromele, “A hero, in the Igbo cultural belief system, is one with great courage and strength to work against destabilizing forces of his community, someone who affects, in a special way, the destinies of others by pursuing his own. He is a man noted for special achievements. His life is defined by ambivalence, because his actions must stand in sharp contrast to ordinary behavior”(Nnoromele). In my opinion, he chose this type of hero to show the correlation between Okonkwo’s rise and fall in the Igbo society to the rise and fall of the Igbo culture itself. Many commentators have come up with various reasons for Okonkwo’s failure in the novel. Some say that it is just his chi that causes him to be a failure; however others believe it is because he is incapable of dealing with his culture deteriorating before his eyes. In Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, Okonkwo’s character as a tragic hero is a result of his chi, inability to cope with the destruction of the Igbo culture, and ultimately, his own suicide.
Incontrovertible, physical education programs are getting more attention in the last few years. They are the key to increase teenager’s physical activity levels. Moreover, there are many benefits in the physical education than just having fun, it sharpen overall cognitive abilities and motor skills via athletics. However, what those classes are really trying to promote is the inclusion of a regular fitness activity in our daily routine. Meanwhile, regular fitness activities are “Active living” day-to-day activities, for example, treadmill walking, bike riding and basic daily activities; that is what our parents and ancestors have been doing for most of their lives. These kinds of activities are what our students are not engaging in; rather they are more likely to engage in sedentary activities from playing video games and watching television (The University of Waterloo, 2009). This will, in the long term, increase the risk of virulent diseases such as diabetes, heart failure, hypertension, and even cancer. Despite all these facts, the physical education programs teaches many personal and social tools to the student, some of t...

Movement is one of the most highly debated topics among teachers today, as every individual has his/her own opinions in their teaching philosophy. Teachers must get around barriers caused by the high priorities of standardized testing and low effort to include movement in their classroom; therefore, it puts too much stress on the general education teachers. There are insufficient amounts of space to complete activities requiring movement when in a classroom; therefore, the teachers are incapable of safely navigating students around the room. Some students will refuse to participate in different physical activities, causing frustration when teachers are trying to plan full class activities, and this takes away from academic instruction. It is often that educators exclude these physical activities from the classroom due to stress that is put on the schools to perform higher academically; however, studies show exercise may be a large factor in the student’s performance. There are so many ways to incorporate movement into the lessons that increase the students’ academic achievements while motivating them. As space is limited in the classroom, during the warmer months, teachers can use the outdoors as an engaging experience to refresh the students’ minds and prepare them for new lessons. Physical activities can also be used to reinforce information that was previously taught during lessons to increase the student’s knowledge of the topic. Opinions vary from one person to another, but there is only one way to find the effects that exercise has on the student’s abilities. Physical activity should be incorporated into the classroom because it promotes cognition and academic achievement, improves student behavior and attitud...
Physical Education is imperative, therefore the school system must display emphasis on the subject. Physical education has been overlooked for far too long. “Schools can create an environment for children to learn and practice healthy behaviors through physical education (PE) class, health education class, access to daily PA opportunities, and healthy foods and beverages”(Nihiser,
Opponents of physical education in schools state that gym is not the best way to utilize students’ time. Students’ should be given the choice to participate in gym class or not because many students aren’t as athletic and don’t enjoy it enough to want to do it in school. Despite this downfall, PE is important in students’ life and even though some don’t enjoy it as much, they need it in order to be successful in life. If not, diseases and health risks could come up and it wouldn’t be robust. Ultimately, physical education provides superior benefits.
In today’s world, the Fitbit and Apple Watch trend are taking over. It seems as if everyone has a device that will track their step progress, their heart rate, and their calories. Some individuals may think that these devices are bad because they are a distraction, but physical education teachers think differently. PE teachers think that the devices can be helpful because it will make the child want to reach their step goal for the day. Children love to feel like winners, so the teachers could put on competitions in their physical education classes for the child who reaches the highest heart rate or the most steps first.
The way Ibn Musaad and King Ibn Saud treated Muhammad Asad was beyond that what I expected. Despite of his background as a westerner and a Jew, he had a smooth journey because people around him treated him nicely. I questioned myself when I read this chapter. What would I do if I were in Ibn Musaad place. Yes, Asad might be a friend of amir but what if he is just an ordinary guy who just converted to Islam? What is the right way t...
Adapting to new technology can be difficult for parents and teachers, however, there are many ways in which parents and teachers can help students find the balance between the digital world and the real world. A great idea for Physical Education teachers, provided by EdTechDigest, is to use a digital fitness-tracking tool, such as a Fitbit or GPS distance tracker. The fitness tracker can be used to analyze the correlation between the individual’s physical well-being online and offline.
Is it possible to incorporate technology into physical education class? Many people would think that it isn’t possible. When people think of incorporating technology into education, they think of computers, smart boards, power point presentations, internet, tablets and plenty of other things. The physical education technology used in the gym is different from the normal classroom technology that is used in the everyday classroom. There are a lot of different technology implements a teacher could use to make teaching in a physical education easier like pedometers, heart rate monitors, and exergames. Technology is everywhere we
“Physical education plays a critical role in educating the whole student. Research supports the importance of movement in educating both mind and body. Physical education contributes directly to development of physical competence and fitness. It also helps students to make informed choices and understand the value of leading a physically active lifestyle. The benefits of physical education can affect both academic learning and physical activity patterns of students. The healthy, physically active student is more likely to be academically motivated, alert, and successful. … Throughout the school years, quality physical education can promote social, cooperative and problem solving competencies. Quality physical education programs in our
Technology is a big part of the fitness testing that occurs in most school systems in the country. There are three different types of tests, the pacer, pushup, and sit up test. For the pacer test the voice will tell you when to begin, and then you must run from one sideline of the court to the other before the beep. You must do this continuously back and forth until you reach a passing score. For the pushup and sit up test you must go up and down as the voice commands until you either pass or fail. For example, where I went to high school we used all of these forms of technology for our state fitness testing. Even some of our athletic coaches will use the pacer test as a way to get our sports team in better condition. Also, some PE classes use music for warm ups in order to get the students focused or excited about the class. By using the music the kids will want to start moving instead of no music which may make the beginning of class seem boring and bland. Another way technology is used is through virtual games and other activities. Some examples of virtual games could be Dance Dance Revolution, or other games for the Wii, Playstation, and other video game consoles where you are constantly moving even while standing in front of a television or
Physical education takes place in the school curriculum which is timetabled and taught to all school pupils. This involves a range of different skills, learning basic movements
Technology properly used in the classroom has many advantages to a student’s learning. Technology can help students become more involved in their own learning process, which is not seen in the traditional classroom. It allows them to master basic skills at their own rate rather than being left behind. Teachers and students alike can connect to real life situations by using technology in the classroom; this can also help to prepare students for real world situations. Technology can be used to motivate students as well as to offer more challenging opportunities. It can also be used as a visualization tool to keep students interested in the subject that is being taught. When technology is used effectively, students have the opportunity to develop skills that they may not get without the use of technology (Cleaver, 2011). Assessing and monitoring students is easier on the teacher because of the ability to use technology in the classroom. When technology is used correctly it offers limitless resources to a classroom atmosphere.
