Background Public transportation is serious need of a massive overhaul in this nation. We are in desperate need to catch up to the European standard of public transportation in this country. In Europe, citizens can travel across cities, bodies of water, and even counties with their state of the art public transportation system. Europeans are not nearly as reliant on cars and oil as the United States is because they have the much more practical option of taking the transportation provided to them by the government to where ever they need to go. They have set a model that the United States needs to strive for and meet in the near future. The government is pouring billions of dollars every year to sustain and attempt to fix the system we currently have in place and yet the problem of transportation is not getting any better. We are exhausting time, money and resources with this pointless system of trying to fix problems that are simply incurable and relying of a method of transportation that is impractical. Traffic, congestion and accidents plague this nation because every household has several cars and each member of the household has to personally drive him or herself to separate locations daily. This simply does not work. Our roads and highways simply cannot keep up with the growing population and our current way of life. Public mass transportation is desperately needed to fix this problem. Goals of The Bill Plain and simple, the goal of this bill is to provide American citizens with the mass public transportation system that is in desperate need. Our goal is to make public transportation accessible to every American and make it become a new way of life. Furthermore, we are striving to reduce our dependen... ... middle of paper ... ...o meet new standards and people’s demands. We propose that $5 billion be allotted to this portion of the bill to accommodate subways and light rail. Every dollar spent by this bill will be meticulously scrutinized by congressional committees and experts in each respected field to ensure that not a single dollar is wasted. Each part of this project will be overseen by hand picked individuals to carry out the orders and oversee the projects all over the nation. We must make sure that time is not wasted and resources are not scattered. The projects funded by this bill will be held under a microscope and never allowed to spend a dollar without the governments consent. With this funding and governmental oversight, we will be able to meet the challenges of the future and provide accessible public transportation to every American citizen within this great nation.
