Recorded from 400 B.C. people have had mental disabilities, and that is never going to change no matter what you do. Mentally ill people have been labeled lunatics and crazy for centuries. They have been known to be disgraces in families and they were sometimes known as a parent’s punishment for their wrongdoings against God. For people now are starting to treat the mentally ill better than what they did but they are still treated badly. They should not be treated this way for they never chose this life, and it is wrong. The mentally ill and disabled are still not treated like they deserve for they are still being assaulted, people are still not taking the right approach into helping them, and they are not being supervised like they should be. The mentally ill are being majorly assaulted all over the Now we use things like psychotherapy. Psychotherapy is supposed to be exploring thoughts, behaviors, feelings and tries to improve a person’s well being. They have things like medication, case management, support groups and hospitalization. Someone can be hospitalized so they can be closely monitored and their medications adjusted. A person with a mental disorder can be forced to be hospitalized. A mentally ill person can be locked up and restrained in straitjackets and bed restraints which can cause the patient to get worse. The different techniques used in hospitals for the mentally ill does not necessarily help everyone and could possibly make them feel worse. The techniques however, has improved drastically for now instead of lobotomies and electric shock therapies; hospitals now use medications and counseling. If someone says they don’t like something like group therapy then they should not be forced into doing it. The conditions at some hospitals are known to be horrible.
