A comfort zone is securing people in a place where they feel themselves safely away from circumstances in life. The individuals can feel safe when they want, but they are damaging themselves in certain ways. They would adapt to a comfort life and it will make it difficult for them to overcome the comfort zone. This is a major problem for society because it prevents them from accomplishing goals like make important business decisions, socialize with people, self-development, etc. All the elements listed are taken away from people because they want to secure themselves in a safe zone where they would not tolerate with responsibilities. They are unaware they are damaging themselves that could develop mental and health problems. This psychological …show more content…
Teenagers, for example, are transitioning from high school to college. They are expected to handle responsibilities, time management, social schedule, finances, and challenges in a college life. This transition is new to young adults, which it can help them prepare and develop to adulthood. They will be able to be prepare for their successful life, graduating college and career. Unfortunately, there are a few young adults who are mostly stuck within their comfort zone. They do not want to adjust the sudden transition because they were more comfortable with their previous state that it makes it difficult for young adults to self-develop. Most of them did not bother going to college to face those challenges to seek their degree, and they will lose the opportunity for higher education because of the comfort zone. Challenge is the key for people to overcome …show more content…
It can risk employers of losing their job, but their role of their job could impact society. A study conducted by Buysse, Wesley, Keyes, and Baily presented interesting results how teachers within their comfort zone could impact the children’s education and their professionalism. Study shows teachers who are most uncomfortable with children who had profound disabilities sometimes asked someone to move the disabled child to a different class, so they can feel comfortable teaching children with no disabilities (Giangreco). Disabled children would be force to move to a different classroom because of the teacher’s discomfort with disabled children. This action could cause controversy by the teacher who shows lack of professionalism, and the comfort zone is destroying the teacher’s ability for disabled children to get the education they need to be successful. They should not tolerate this kind of mental behavior because it is their job to teach students no matter by race, disability, etc. Another example of comfort zone impacting the work environment is an adjustment to technology. Most companies and jobs must rely on technology to get the job done, but most employees are not comfortable with the sudden shift to usage of technology. According to an article by Held, many bank employees, for example, are “being forced to the new system, rather than encouraged to
“Disrupting My Comfort Zone” by Brian Grazer is a short story about a forty five year old man in the entertainment business, who purposely puts himself in rather difficult situations. He is constantly in search for new people to meet that can teach him something new, or challenge his previous beliefs. Grazer goes on to explain the reasoning behind his wacky behavior saying “Disrupting my comfort zone, bombarding myself with challenging and situations, this is the best way I know to keep growing” (92). In other words, Grazer feels as if he has a need to constantly be developing himself. Challenging himself in this way is the only way he knows how.
Throughout the length of schooling, students go through various changes. In their first year of school, children are required to make the transition from being at home for the entire day to being in school for a number of hours a day. These transition periods happen many times through the schooling years, but the most drastic changes occur during the transition from high school to college, where students weather numerous lifestyle changes. While each individual student goes on their own journey, certain themes remain common between different students. Studies are done to look at these themes identifying the numerous differences and similarities.
Students entering college for the first time become concerned with their college life. The students are on their own once they enter college. There are no parents or guardians telling them when to do homework, when to go to bed, or how to eat healthy. These students are now responsible for how they are going to succeed in school and meet their own needs. From the beginning, these students wonder what their experience is going to be like and are they going to handle the demands of college?
Many high school seniors are excited about going to college. Meeting new people, trying new things, and finding who they are, are all things they look forward to. But, not until a few days before the big move out, do they become nervous. To me, overcoming the transition to college was very difficult, and would have been more difficult if I did not have friends to encourage me.
Teachers often mistake students with disabilities as “annoying” and write them off as “dumb” or “lazy,” due to lack of education. I understand some teachers experience training with the mentally ill or learning disabled population, however I strongly believe every teacher, everywhere, should experience extensive training with children who have any kind of disability. As school staff it is our job to provide a safe learning environment for our children, especially because many children do not receive the same kind of attention and affection in their homes, so when they come to school and are being treated like they are less than human, they begin to believe they are “annoying” or
Introduction In today’s society, high school students have a hard time transiting into college life making it difficult for them for them to grow and mature as an individual. Some people mature faster than others. As people begin to mature in life, they start understanding a lot about themselves, like their values, ethics, sexual orientation and ethnicity. They try to create a mature relationship with people, giving them the ability to build a healthy relationship and based on trust and honesty.
College can be a scarce transition for individuals, especially for the ones who have lived at home their whole lives. While college is said to be one of the best experiences, there are negative factors that eventually add up. Students who live under their parents roofs or attend high school, usually have their day-to-days lives planned. A typical day in the life of a student may be going to school for eight hours, participating in an activity after school, coming home to a home-cooked meal, and going to bed. Where, college is the first year a student may experience more independence and a non-planned agenda. Most individuals know when going to college they’re going to miss the familiar feeling of their hometown, home-made meals, and their own
Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for children with disabilities in a Least Restrictive Environment to not have their needs met adequately. Some parents think that teachers do not have the proper skills to help their child with disabilities flourish in the classroom. Two concerns/challenges are that typical developing students will imitate inappropriate behaviors made by students with disabilities and students with disabilities could potentially get teased about their disabilities and inappropriate behaviors. As said by Virginia Buysse and Donal B. Baily, Jr. (1993) “… the opportunities for young children with disabilities to interact with peers in integrated settings must be carefully
I have experienced firsthand some of the positives and negatives. One of the most important aspects of inclusion is the social development gained by students with disabilities. One of the negatives is the danger of a student with a disability not being able to differentiate when they are in real danger of getting hurt. Often students with disabilities appear to be normal among the other students and not given the latitude of having a disability that may impede there judgement. As a special education teacher, I have learned standing in the doorway to prevent a child from leaving the classroom constitutes seclusion. I had to testify in a civil case in 2016 were a child with a disability tried to leave the classroom and the substitute teacher stood in the doorway and tried to prevent her from leaving. Preventing the incident could have transpired if there had been proactive measures taken rather reactive measures. It has become necessary to provide all personal involved within the school system the education needed to support inclusion and children with disabilities. I am a true believer in Least Restrictive Environment. Throughout my teaching career, I have watched a student with an IQ of 51 participate in co-taught or mainstream classes. Now, this particular student’s social skills were better than most people I know. In his freshman year, the doctor diagnosed him with cancer and given one year to live. He never stopped smiling. He pulled through and is currently finishing a program at the Vo-tech, where he maintained his grades and attendance with very few accommodations. He is happy, healthy, and I can see him ending up making more money a year than most people I know. I do understand not all cases will be like this one. However, I am sure that if the parents of this particular student had not stood their ground and refused to allow their child be
The stereotypical version of the normal life of a teenager proceeding to college would include high academic standards met throughout their high school career and outstanding outside testing scores resulting in automatic entry into the institution of their choice. Many of these individuals have the support of their accomplished family members in the form of financial support. There are those who have not had the luxuries of any easy upbringing but forced to decide between a life with a college degree or full-time employment. For myself I want to have it all and to achieve that I have taken on both.
Lastly, there's just not enough time for anything in their life, like they can't mentally or physically handle school and their lifestyle. Take me for example, a college student and a mother of one. I find it hard to successfully attend college and keep a job at the same time. My family and myself, right now, are at the bottom of the barrel. When we moved back from Tennessee, we had to use all the money we had saved.
The completion of high school is the beginning of adult life. Entitlement to public education ends, and young people and their families are faced with many options and decisions about the future. The most common choices for the future are pursuing vocational training or further academic education, getting a job, and living independently.
Sapon – Shevin states when students are uncomfortable with their peers who are different from them this situation can be a teaching moment for the teacher, in other words educate the students on the differences of others, not only disabilities, b...
In life, when a person faces the discomfort of a situation head on, the fear attached with it doesn't control them. It's often stated that a comfort zone is a dangerous place to exist in because nothing grows there. If you want to improve as a student and as a human being, it's important to embrace this part of life. 4. Discomfort can't stop you.
As I ponder over my personal professional development experiences as an educator the realization of how one has developed over time is personally satisfying. Educating children especially children with special needs is a challenge within its self. As a teacher it is important that this writer makes a positive influence with students. There are going to be certain ideas that one tries to uphold and other discriminations that one will not allow. Everyone has their own beliefs teachers should do what is necessary not to infringe on others, but show children different way to think so that they have all the information needed to make educated choices. Children are open-minded they have not yet had to deal with or understand the injustices that they will encounter. If children are taught from an early age they will have the ability to succeed especially children with special needs as an educator my main goal is teaching the purpose of public schools, and education reform. It is my purpose to influence children and be positive influence.
