During the 19th century, the ‘cult of domesticity’ also called ‘cult of true womanhood’ became a value system in the United States and Great Britain among the upper and middle class. This value system emphasized a new concept that a woman’s role was only within the home and they are to be involved in dynamics of work and family. A true woman was one who possessed four cardinal values and they were piety, purity, domesticity, and submissiveness.
The new cult of domesticity though had its disadvantages, but at the same time gave women the power to become the center of the family and they were considered "The light of the home".
